Restaurant Information
Ru Inn
With quaint pink tables out on busy High street and Chinese yum cha cuisine, Ru Inn would probably be more at home in the Richmond Asian restaurant precinct - but that's what also sets it apart and makes it a valued addition to the Armadale locale. Ru Inn is open for daily yum cha from Tuesday to Sunday, making it popular with local diners for lunch, dinner and events catering and earning it special mentions in the Dine Out guide. At $46, the signature eye fillet Peking duck is a choice main whilst other dishes such as spicy quail, mixed dim sim, won tons, seafood and bean curd soup, and shark fin soup with chicken and crab meat provide a comfort for those seeking the usual Chinese menu items. House specials include Cantonese eye fillet steak, Mandarin pork, Mongolian lamb and seafood fish fillets with sweet and sour lemon-based sauces, and Szechuan style chilli poultry dishes which extend the menu into other South East Asian cuisines. Rice noodles and extensive vegetarian combinations, as well as desserts such as deep-fried ice cream, red bean pancakes and mango pudding pair perfectly with the extensive selection of Australian wines, beers and spirits. The interior is spacious and airy with a large, bright sky-light and multi-level dining areas, rising to a mezzanine and private function rooms via bubbling goldfish tanks and cool grey marble flooring.

Incredible yum cha
We eat yum cha every weekend and always like to try somewhere different. Initially we picked Ru Inn because of the BYO licence with a $4 corkage which is very reasonable compared to most yum cha venues. The restaurant was very quiet for a yum cha place but it was actually a refreshing change from the noisy hustle and bustle. Spring rolls were a little on the tasteless side but the kids loved them and the sesame prawns. The dumplings were a huge surprise - fresh fresh fresh and great aromatic flavours. Crunchy ginger prawn dumplings, the usual shark fin, seafood, Shanghai chicken, chives, Chinese broccoli, but with flavour that was incredible. We asked for squid and were offered a rather bland octopus plate which was OK but when we ordered what we actually wanted which was the spicy calamari, we got the best spicy calamari that we have had in years of eating yum cha. Soft, tender, fresh fillets, crumbed with a divine spicy rub of chilli, garlic and onions. We followed up with the mandatory egg custard tarts which were soft, warm and delicious and a surprisingly good coconut jelly which converted a friend who normally baulks at the jelly plate and is now a convert. Great attentive service and good prices with yum cha plates at $4,$5 and $6.
