Considering the pub's reputation as something of a nesting ground for backpackers, there are some surprising menu items to be found here.
A small portion of the menu is dedicated to "olde Irish fare", which shouldn't be very surprising given the pub's heritage, but it's astounding to note how many "authentic" Irish pubs omit these hearty Irish staples from their menus, mostly sticking with traditional Aussie grub instead. Irish stew and a traditional dish of bacon and cabbage make for great winter warmers.
Venturing on through the menu, burgers, grill items and pizza aside, some of the light meals might catch your eye with delectable starters such as the deep-fried camembert and smoked salmon flowerets (salmon flowerets with a horseradish cream cheese, mixed leaves, a drizzle of lemon, capers and a side of Irish brown bread) - hardly typical backpacker food. The soup of the day, served with freshly made soda bread and Kerry Gold butter, is exceedingly comforting on a chilly afternoon.
