With all the understated elegance of a bygone age, Room with Roses is a delightfully antique-style haven from the modern world. Though located in the heritage Brisbane Arcade building, this is no shopping-centre cafe, full of harassed shoppers and their babycino-slurping offspring, but rather peaceful sanctuary in historic surrounds, a destination in itself. The cafe includes an interior balcony overlooking the arcade and is divided into little nooks and crannies - quiet corners where guests can sip tea and contemplate a slower and more gentle time than they currently inhabit. The menu aids in this illusion, with a list of old-fashioned favourites that includes shepherd's pie, lemon meringue pie and a very English sweet curry. Finally, the icing on the (sponge) cake is the promised roses - artfully arranged with big bunches and single blooms on every table.

Coming up roses
After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to make a booking (too busy) I managed to book lunch at this beautiful cafe with my Mum.
The food was excellent, much better than I expected from a city cafe for a busy weekday lunch.
I had the mango chicken salad which was beautifully presented, with a full half cheek of mango sitting on top of a perfectly dressed fresh salad with nuts and moist, sliced chicken breast.
My mother had the corn cakes which were crisp and delicious, topped with a rosette of smoked salmon.
The highlight was the fresh green apple juice - a brimming glass of goodness.
Staff were both warm and efficient. I wish we'd had the room / time to try some of the delicious looking cakes that are apparently made on site.
Room with Roses has a lovely, refined atmosphere with pretty roses on each table.

Disappointed
I had been looking forward to eating at this cafe but found it a disapointing experience. My food was good though pricy at $16.95 per sandwich. My companion was not impressed with her food and said it was plain. Once seated our table had crumbs and a bottle of water left from the previous patrons. The room was full of roses as promised though I found the atmsphere tacky. The patrons were female dominated, only two men were eating there.
