Fish grilled to perfection!
Last night we dined at the Robert Burns Hotel for the first time, lots of paellas being ordered and we liked to see the open kitchen - what can I say! the food was wonderfuland the portions were very generous. We are not an easy crowd to please when it comes to food but the mixed grilled fish (barramundi, blue eye and a whole flounder)ordered by three of us was fantastic, fresh, fresh, fresh and grilled perfectly, it's very hard to find a pub that does great grilled fish. The porterhouse steak was cooked to order 'rare' and chicken parma was also very good . The service was attentive and courteous and we loved the warm pub atmosphere, very welcoming. Value for money +++. We will be back to try the paella but it will be difficult to go past that fish!

The place was packed definatley recommend a trip there. They also offer some excellent spanish wines that i tried for the first time

Wanted to taste an authentic paella in Melbourne-4 people dinner
Was recommended to this Hotel for an authentic paella but must say we were quite disappointed...the paella was greasy and the ingredients: prawns/mussels/beef/chorizo were poor quality (the mussels were empty!). My husband had the steak and chips with salad which again the meat was very average and quantities small for what you expect in a pub/hotel. Service was very average...nothing to brag about..

Dinner with family
To be honest I was rather disappointed, the food had flavour but lacked finesse. While the paella (seafood) had a wonderful flavour, the dish was ruined by countless mouthfuls of grit/sand, presumably from the clams/pipi s within the dish.
The staff were not all that impressive, one or two in particular had real attitude (not in a good way either). Perhaps we caught them on a bad night.

Come here for the most authentic paella in Melbourne
Stepping into this well-worn Collingwood pub, we did not expect to find traditional Spanish cuisine on the menu. We ordered the paella Valenciana with seafood and chicken and it was amazing! Well, the most authentic paella I've had in Melbourne. It tasted just like in Spain. Not the cheapest at $44 for 2 people, however it was a generous serving with salad and bread. Could easily be enough for 3 people if you had a few tapas dishes for entree. Excellent sangria also at $15 a jug.
