The new Portside Wharf precinct promises to become a stellar shopping and entertainment mecca in Brisbane, featuring some of most exciting recent additions to the city's culinary market. Paul McGivern, formerly of Rapide in Camp Hill, has taken his passion for fresh and organic food and has made it the cornerstone of Manx. The modern European menu consistently features mouth-watering seafood, poultry, meat and game dishes, changing often to utilise the freshest available produce. The desserts are to die for, particularly the melt-in-your-mouth buttermilk pancakes with poached rhubarb, honey and cinnamon ice cream.
The premises are fully licensed and feature an extensive list of primarily French and Australian wines, as well as a considerable local and imported list of beers. Manx is open for lunch and dinner daily but if it's a smaller meal you're after, simply order something lighter from the bar menu. The decor is modern and contemporary with a choice of cosy seating inside or alfresco people-watching outside. Its location on the esplanade is just a stone's throw away from the Brisbane River and is adjacent to the Dendy Cinema, making Manx an ideal venue for a dinner and movie combination.

Brilliant!
First visit to Manx, mid week with a Groupon voucher, and the evening was excellent. The smiling friendly welcome followed by fresh, warm and fragrant bread with tiny pearl olives bursting on the palate was a great start. The platter of Pork belly with a beautiful array of winter vegetables was a visual feast. The pork was cooked to melt- in -the- mouth perfection, like a pink savoury cloud! Sensational crackling added a wonderful lingering texture. More texture came with crisp beans and the truffle jus bound and balanced the whole dish. The strawberry tasting plate was a treat and also picture perfect. Care of execution and expertise of technique were evident in every dish. A glass red with mains and a glass of botrytis with dessert rounded off a fine experience. July 2011

WOW - Foodys, entertainment delight....
Thought the night was going to be miserable with the weather, turned out an absolute delight! Restaurant Manx - you have proved yourself again to be top of my list. Well done. An unexpected delight to have entertainment on Wednesdays. I would call myself a regular to Restaurant Manx but didn't realise you started doing live entertainment on Wednesdays nights. She was amazing, beautiful voice and a welcome resonatting sound as we ate our beautiful dishes. My goodness, our MEALS! Truly devine. Entree the Zucchini flowers, just sensational. My main decided to try the Gnocchi (not always a big fan), all i can say is WOW! Tried a few of the chips from my partners sides and the aioli, I WANT THE RECIPE! Thank you. Dessert - Well should I mention this for those watching the waistline, I am, and I could not resist, Fantastic. I nearly didn't have room but made sure I left a little on my plate from the mains....Champagne zabaglione was amazing so tasty and not to much for my hips. We will be back.... you can be assured of that.

Finally got there, glad we did!
My wife and I have been meaning to get to Manx for the last 6 months, various reasons have kept us away and that was a shame because our Dinner last night was great. We booked for 6pm mainly because we prefer it a little less crowded and it generally also alleviates the potential for long waits on dishes. We were greeted in a friendly manner and given a choice of tables. Earlier in the afternoon (I booked at 11.50am)I received a phone call from Manx to let me know that our table would be outside and that I was happy with this, I thought that was a great piece of service given the chance that it would be cold being situated near the river. While reading the menus we were given some complimentary canap?s which was lovely, our waiter indicated that if we had any questions about the menu he was happy to explain. After much deliberation we ordered 1 stater, 1 entr?e, 2 mains and asked for the menu back for desert following the meal. Entr?e and stater came out together as requested in about 8 min. Mains took about 10 minutes after our first lot of plates were collected, and as requested the waiter brought back our menus for desert. During our time there the wait staff ensured our water glasses were full and were not pushy for additional glasses of wine. When I did ask for a second the waiter retrieved the bottle I had the first glass from and a fresh glass, nice touch. As for the food, well it was Very Good. Steak, Duck and Rabbit cooked perfectly as were all the other elements. Overall one of the best food experiences we have had. p.s. Strawberry souffl? is delicious. Thanks, we will be back

A very disappointing experience
While there was nothing wrong with the food, this establishment had a poor atmosphere which was well matched with the standard of service. On the evening of our visit, the restaurant was certainly not busy, however our main course took 50 minutes to appear. When the meal finally arrived, it was hardly worth the wait. We decided to skip dessert on the basis of the main course quality and wait time. I will not return.

Poor communication
Organised a celebratory dinner for an friend's engagement. Brought along an expensive bottle of champagne to toast the couple, handed it to the waiter to keep cool when I got there. When I asked the table waiter to bring out the champange during the entree, was then told that they didn't accept BYO wines - she then attempted to sell me the most expensive champagne on the wine list!

Exceptional, as always!
Choosing a place for a birthday dinner is always a big decision but I had no doubt in my mind where I wanted to go with my partner and a few friends this time! After a luxurious lunch one afternoon last year we have both been very keen to get back there for an evening feast. The service was excellent, dining out is always interesting for myself and my partner as we are both in the hospitality industry, thus making us super critical, anyway, never have I craved for and thoroughly recommended somewhere so much... The service is perfect, food exceptional and the ambience is a combination of the two. Cannot wait to get back there soon.

Disappointed.
I am usually given the task of suggesting the restaurant for family birthday dinners. I had heard good things about restaurant Manx, and my family, being fans of Portside, were keen. The food was very impressive, unfortunately the service was not. The service was ok, but certainly was not up to the standard that the food had set. They were not up to the task of suggesting a wine for my mother, who generally has only one request, something sweet. The atmosphere was not to my liking, it is very open, which may appeal to many, but not me. We booked what they call the "wine room" expecting something a little more private, only to find it was merely the closest table to the wine rack, with the option of curtains being drawn. All in all, the restaurant gave the feeling of top quality food, being eaten on the beach, while warding off seagulls.
