Nestled among Newcastle's sandstone-lined streets, Restaurant Deux reflects the laidback vibe of the area, not taking itself too seriously despite providing a level of dining that deserves respect. The high-ceilinged space is simply dressed in warm cream shades, with the main visual feature being the open kitchen. The view of owner/chef Lesley Taylor rustling the pans and sliding neatly around the kitchen effectively whets the appetite for the dishes to come. Taylor's modern French food skilfully blends a variety of classic flavours found in Gallic fare with mouth-watering local and seasonal produce.

A wonderful surprise
We were visiting Newcastle for the weekend (up from Sydney) and happened to stumble upon Restaurant Deux. We had a wonderful meal - all 3 courses were thoroughly enjoyable. The place itself is warm and inviting and the service is friendly and professional. We are now booking our 3rd visit.

ok food, but nothing special
The food was ok, but nothing special, considering that for a couple to have bread, 2 courses and wine, you're forking out around $200.

great food and a great night
My wife & i were treated to a great night of fine dining at Restaurant II. The service, and feel of the place is very polished. We were made welcome and able to experience some awesome food made with the greatest skill. The freshness of everything was obvious and we enjoyed every aspect.
