Local and organic produce is the glimmering focus of this gem in the southern Tassie town of Cygnet. Chef Steve Cumper switched city living for country loving, moving from previous stints in South Australia and Victoria to launch the Red Velvet Lounge. This cool and trendy cafe bears the fruits of his labours as he infuses his dishes with seasonal Huon Valley and Channel produce. While the dinner menu is always changing, the daytime fare stays solid with lovingly homemade sourdough breads, cakes, biscuits, jams and preserves, as well as savoury gourmet goodies like corned beef hash with free-range eggs and bearnaise sauce, and a Tassie cheese platter accompanied by toasted apple bread and water crackers.
