Specialising in both familiar and unusual Cantonese dishes, the Red Teapot offers ambrosial meals in vibrant surrounds. The signature dish is the prosperous fragrant chicken (the name says it all), but dishes such as the crispy squid tentacles or the chicken claypot may also tempt diners.

like it :)
I love to go back again to try their other dishes... wide range of chinese food in the menu. we have a bday party there on friday nite and it's packed and noisy. very limited but it was nice and cosy. food come out a bit slow and inconsistent but we all love the taste of the food. we had the popular prosperous chicken and the squid, that was absolutely unforgetable the taste, and some other vege and claypot. i can only remember this two dishes as that was the best. i like the special fried rice as well althought the pork is quite a chucky piece. thumbs up for red teapot!!!

Terrible Teapot
After reading reviews about The Red Teapot and passing it by on several occasions, the Food Prince and Princess decided to dine at this quant little restaurant located at the end of William Street and see for ourselves what it had to offer.
We were greeted by a friend waitress who was eager to take our order as she politely informed us that the kitchen closes at 9:30pm. Once seated at a tiny little corner near the register Food Prince and I perused the rather extensive menu, which had most standard dishes you would expect of a Chinese restaurant. Our pickings were deep fried tofu with chilli (entree), soft shell chilli and salt crab, kung pow chicken and steamed rice, all of which the waitress confirmed were very nice choices.
When the dishes arrived they looked pleasing enough, but we were bitterly disappointed as the tasting begun. The entree size tofu was rather oily and twice the size of the soft shell crab main we ordered, which in itself was ruined by the ridiculous amount of salt that overpowered the entire dish. The sauce and peanuts in the chicken added a nice flavour, but there was far too much dried red chilli (even for two chilli lovers) and the chicken was barely cooked. I think the steamed rice was the most impressive dish! Perhaps it was just our choice of dishes, but neither the Prince nor I could enjoy the taste of the lack luster food.
The atmosphere was extremely noisy, which is expected for a small restaurant of this size, but we wondered why some tables felt the need to scream and shout every few minutes. Overall, we were thoroughly disappointed and vowed, in fact pledged to each other, that we would never return!

Good food!
Been to The Red Teapot few times and has been very impressed with their cantonese cuisine. Although very limited space but the food is fantastic. Love their fried squid, the chilli and salt spare ribs and some of the special claypot. wanted to try more of their dishes so will go again soon.

Dissapointed
After being told about Red Teapot and how good it was I was very intrigued and am always up for trying something new. We arrived at 7pm and after about 20 mins had to flag someone down to take our entree order, then the same for our mains. Then all the food came out at different times. All of my friends had eaten by the time I got mine. To their credit the crumbed squid tenticles was very tasty but not enough for me to go back again. Sorry Red Teapot but you need to get more staff or faster service.

Disappointing service
We arrived on time for the early dinner shift having made a reservation. Ordered within 20mins of arriving though food didn't arrive till much later due to the place filling up quick. We weren't finished by 8pm however noticed the other dinner shift had arrived. Waiters could be heard complaining about our table still being here. Food was average, I've had better Cantonese food along the myriad of restaurants along Roe St, Northbridge.

Incredible soft shell crab
I had been looking forward to going to Red Teapot, and loved every bit of it. We ordered the signature dish (prosperous fragrant chicken), chilli and salt soft shell crab and Singapore noodles. The chicken was pretty disappointing actually but the crab was incredible and delicious! It was a good combination of spicy heat and savoury salt. The noodles were tasty with bits of BBQ pork, chicken and prawns thrown in - yum! To top off the evening, I finished with fried ice cream, which was great.
For a tiny restaurant which was packed for a Monday night, the service was pretty decent. The place isn't flashy, but it's quaint and offers good food at very resonable prices.

Good but not great
After hearing and reading about the fantastic reviews of this little place I was quite disappointed. After arriving at 8pm for the second sitting, the restaurant was overcrowded and we were forced to wait outside in the cold for half an hour. While some of the dishes were good, particularly the soft shell crab, it was just an average Chinese meal. To top off the evening before we could order dessert the kitchen had been closed without us being informed. It is however reasonably priced but I won't be back in the future.

Fabulous
A friend and I called in for a late lunch. Friendly urbane service, with prompt delivery of food. Hor fun was one of the best I've had anywhere. Pork and eggplant claypot was delicious, although a little more pork and fish, and a little less eggplant and rice would be preferable.
The atmosphere is very non-Perth - which in my book is a HUGE plus. And the waitstaff are easy on the eye and ear too.
I'll be going back again and again, I suspect.

This Place is a Gem!
I've had some friends raving about this place for ages. I'm not normally a huge fan of Chinese food but this place is something else, the salty squid tentacles and the salty ribs are really the best I've tasted. The service was quick. The place was small and very packed. I'd suggest booking is essential. The decor was quite good for a cheap and cheerful place. The toilets are an adventure. You walk through the kitchen. Great food and really well priced.
