A gorgeous little corner shop artfully converted into a buzzing cafe is a much-adored addition to Box Hill's horizon. The exposed red brick walls and timber floorboards complement the warm artwork on the walls and the cute pendant lights, some with quirky cloth shades draped over them, to create a rustic look and feel that perfectly reflects this suburb, its people and the cafe's ethos.
Owners Michael and Kelly Olsen are hands-on folk, with Kelly running front-of-house, Michael manning the coffee machine and various family members helping out here and there. The food is ambitious, up-market but unpretentious cafe fare, with breakfast including a satisfyingly thick stack of pancakes topped by strawberry sauce and cream and the house specialty, 'mojo rojo', which involves avocado, a soft-poached egg, capsicum sauce, a hint of chilli and toast. Stop in for a long meal or a quick coffee in the sun outside and you'll understand why Box Hill locals are lapping this place up.
