Ramen Ya

Opening right next to one of Melbourne's favourite Japanese noodle houses, Kenzan GPO, is a fairly brave move. Fortunately, these guys have the broth and noodles to back it up.

If you're going to Ramen Ya then you're going for one thing only: ramen. The specialty here is the tonkotsu (pork) broth ramen. Packed with flavour and that creamy texture of pork fat, it's a top contender for best ramen in Melbourne. If you're after something a little lighter then go for the shoyu (soy) ramen. It's a little lighter and cleaner on the palate but still packs plenty of flavour.

Best Katsu Don to date
Japanese would have to be one of my favorite cuisines, and to find a good Japanese restaurant these days who do more than just sushi or destroying authentic Japanese recipes with unnecessary western twits is hard to find. However I believe that I have stumbled across a real gem located on Postal Lane, Melbourne (between Myer and GPO). I ordered the Chicken Katsu Bento Box ($10) which included Chicken Katsu with wasabi mayonaise and served with salad and gyoza. The Chicken Katsu Don was succulent, rich and had plenty of flavor. The gyoza were freshly made and kept true to the traditional makings of gyoza. The staff where friendly and knowledgeable and the setting area was unique as all of Postal Lane is restaurants connected and open to pedestrians very similar to eating in the back streets of Tokyo. One of my Melbourne s best cheap eats!! Will be back soon to try the ramen noodles.
