If you've eaten at 'Ip's Noodle Bar' in Chinatown, you know you're in good hands at Rain. Owner Denise Yip (who named the restaurant Rain because "everyone loves rain"), and chef Paul Ip, have moved their winning combination of charm and skill to Norwood Parade. Here, meals are lowered in a dumb waiter from the upper-level kitchen, giving the sense that your meal is 'sent from above'.
The menu certainly showers diners with heavenly dishes. 'Specials' are seafood-based. Morton Bay bugs are given a tropical taste with fresh mango sauce. Crocodile comes tossed with basil, lemongrass and Thai chilli paste. Spicy soft shell crab is the crowd pleaser, with its pieces lightly-battered and wok-finished with fresh chilli.
Crank up the chilli-metre by heading to the 'Spicy' section of the menu. 'Sizzling' options include basil kangaroo fillet with shallots and chilli paste. Smoked duck with Chinese tea leaves and brown sugar is served with Peking sauce, while deep-fried pork ribs can be savoured with sweet vinegar or Beijing sauce.

Rain Norwood
Once you walk into Rain on Norwood you are mesmerised by the quality and feel of this elegant Thai restaurant in Norwood. It has a fresh feel with good food, The dishes were moderately priced and the serving size quite sufficient for the price... The only downfall of the restaurant was the service, though excellent at times the vibe of the place was affected by the waiting staff rushing with the service making at times the place feel like it should be run like a fast food outlet... overall I would give this restaurant a 7/10.

VIP service all the way...
From the moment you step into Rain you're treated like a long-lost relative (even if its your first time dining there!) We were met at the door by the bubbly hostess, whose infectious smile made our party of four smile too. Despite the packed restaurant with regular Norwood Saturday night crowd, we were given full attention by the wait staff - as was everyone else in the restaurant it seemed! We were seated, given menus and brought a round of drinks efficiently and smoothly. The staff are a smiley, happy bunch who are just as comfortable chatting with you as they are leaving you to a private conversation. The menu is broad, but scattered with familiar Chinese food comfort dishes such as salt and pepper bean curd and garlic seafood hot pot. We started with a mixed entree to share and were not disappointed - a mix of spring rolls, dumplings and satays with plenty to go around. Our main courses were equally satisfying. The flavours are clean. Unlike so many other Chinese dishes, these leave you feeling fresh and satisfied, not bloated and greasy. None of the dishes left you with the dreaded MSG oil feeling. Afterwards two of our party had dessert - one a divine fried ice-cream dish that was cooked to perfection, the other bean pudding that was creamy and fresh. Our hats off to Mr Ip, the head chef and co-owner. We ll be back again (and again, and again, and again!!)
