The scenic drive is a perfect entree to this genteel Asian restaurant, which holds court within Steventon Lodge at Tea Tree Gully. Raffles' dining room exudes grace, modelled on its iconic Singaporean namesake. Porcelain resides in wooden cabinets and linen cloaks the tables. Ensure you sit at one of these as opposed to the tables in the estranged patio area - the charm of Raffles is lost in its inconsistent cafe decor.
Chef Yank Hua presides over the kitchen where he blends Chinese, Thai and Malaysian cuisines into a pan-Asian menu. Among entrees of Vietnamese cold rolls, squid salad and five spice chicken wings, quail is a respected inclusion. You can enjoy it salt and peppered or grilled with Thai spices and herbs.
'Eight treasure duck' is a coveted main course, while barbecued pork with fried bean curd deserves lip-smacking consideration. Seafood aficionados will be pleased with choices of salt and pepper squid, spicy Szechuan fish fillets and king prawn red curry. To complete the feast, order sides of crunchy stir-fried bean sprouts and savoury minced beef fried rice. If you'd rather not eat in, the takeaway banquet will see you feasting on lemon chicken, Mongolian steak and succulent garlic king prawns.

Delicious
I've had dinner at Raffles Room many times and I would have to say it's probably the best Chinese i've had. The service is friendly and efficient, and the food is great (the prawn toast for entree is my favourite!). Unfortunately the restaurant is set over a large space and every time i have been there, there is not many diners. This brings the atmosphere down a little. As long as you're not put off by sparseness of customers, then dine here and enjoy!
