Housed in a grandiose Victorian manor turned lavish hotel, this effortlessly classy restaurant strikes a fine balance between the Old and New worlds. For example, the main dining room appears regal and refined with its billowing concertinaed curtains, white-clothed wooden tables and the myriad sculptures and artworks by Australian artists on display around you (not to mention the baby grand piano, where sweet music is played on Thursday and Friday eves).
On the flipside, the Hughenden shows off a modern edge with its contemporary Australian menu, which features such delicacies as duck crepes, medium rare kangaroo fillet, barbecued pork loin and the can't-say-no Chocolate Indulgence dish: a chocolate pudding with mint chocolate ice-cream, mocha chocolate sauce and a sugar web. Now that's one web most people wouldn't object to getting tangled in.
