Strange use of the word
A lot of people really like this restaurant. It's pretty and has plenty of regulars. Some of its menu items are tasty, nicely presented and good value for money. There's just one or two baffling quirks that we got stung by.
We had a hankering for a little Peking duck. Not a lot, just one or two pieces. So when we saw "mini Peking duck" on the entree menu we assumed it was going to be a small serving of Peking duck, as opposed to the whole Peking duck offered elsewhere on the menu. We ordered a couple of pieces to begin our meal. However, what arrived was a sort of hash of stir fried duck meat shreds (no crispy skin!) and vegetables sitting san choi bao-style on top of a pancake, which collapsed under the weight of the mixture when we tried to eat it. "Mini" apparently means that the dish can be completely different to actual Peking duck.
After this it was always going to be difficult for their other dishes to redeem themselves. We had some pork dumplings and some chicken dumplings, but the fillings were indistinguishable from one another in terms of colour, taste, texture and aroma, and neither had the flavour explosion that you get from really well-made Chinese dumplings.
We did however finish with a dish of very tender pork with a sweet Hainanese sauce and fresh apple. This dish was really lovely and would have been much more enjoyable if it wasn't served at the end of such a bitter experience.
There's some nice dishes on the menu, and the wine list has some good value offerings so if you're just looking for a relaxing night out at your local Chinese then this place is OK. But if you eat at a lot of Chinese restaurants and have strong opinions about classic dishes then you probably will not enjoy this place quite so much.

One of the most consistently good restaurants with reasonable prices that I have been to.
