To say this place does a lot would be an understatement. Pure Italian manages to do breakfasts, lunches, antipasto, delicatessen produce, take-home meals and homemade pasta sauces - all exceptionally well.
If the food here seems familiar, it should. Pure Italian is the brain-child of Carlo Sciarpa, who helmed Caffe e Cucina during its 1990s golden age. Now a little more seasoned and mature, Sciarpa has chosen quiet, suburban Balwyn for his family-operated cafe, and for this, all of Balwyn should give thanks.
