Prosser's on the Beach

Renowned as one of Australia's leading seafood restaurants, Prossers on the Beach sits on the first floor of the Sandy Bay Regatta Pavilion, affording a great view of the Derwent River. Coupled with a breezy atmosphere and fresh seafood dishes such as chilli salt calamari and crisp skin ocean trout, it's no wonder Prossers is popular with locals and visitors alike.

Disappointing
For a restaurant that specialises in seafood, one would expect top class seafood dishes and top class produce. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
The entree dishes were good, although the batter on the squid was soggy due to a poor decision to place the salad items on top, rather than underneath. The mains were bland, and oddly no bigger than the entree. The fish was poorly cooked, and did not seem especially fresh. The flavours of the bouillabaisse were poorly balanced, and the broth in particular was uninspiring. In addition the service was poor, and the decor didn't exactly scream "quality restaurant" - especially the rather unattractive fish tank. Some potential, but we have had much better seafood, both in terms of produce and execution, at many other restaurants, often at a lower price. We would not reccomend Prossers based on our experience.

Highly recommended
We recently spent 5 days in Hobart & dined here on a friend's recommendation on a busy Friday night (13/02/09)& we were not disappointed. Food superb, staff friendly & knowledgable.A great wine list with lots of options by the glass. Relaxed atmosphere & great view too. Loved it!!
