This intimate Warburton Lane establishment, accessible from the street through two heavy red rolling doors, does not take its menu lightly. The rich, predominantly Spanish-based tapas menu was designed to be shared, a philosophy facilitated by the large central communal table. On the upper level patrons overlook their lane-level counterparts.
As the name suggests, the eatery's other focus is jamon (dry-cured Spanish ham). The three types on offer are sliced on premises and are strongly represented on the menu.
For such a diminutive space the wine list is ample and reflects establishment's international fare. Portello Rosso seats 70 so bookings are recommended. Group bookings are also welcome - there are two ample banquet menu options available to service larger parties.

Amazing
What a beautiful experience. This was a wish of mine to have Tapas in Melbourne, and I'd read the reviews of Movida and the like, but chose ro have a meal at Portello Rosso, and I was NOT disappointed. The menu is crazy..... Far more interesting than the tourist fare of Movida, there are so many gorgeous sounding dishes, it was difficult to choose. I asked our waiter to pick for us, and the meal that arrived over the next hour and twenty minutes was tremendous! The wine list is not the average, either! We chose a fabulous Temperanillo, that complimented our Tapas, beautifully. The atmosphere was great, And we were made to feel very welcome. Thank You! We will ne back!

Big tick for fresh food
I am not an expert on Spanish cuisine but I definitely know that the food at Portello Rosso is fresh and tasty. The menu is neatly presented between hot and cold tapas which makes selecting dishes very easy. There is a careful balance between jamon, seafood and vegetarian options. I particularly enjoyed the king prawns, heirloom tomatoes and zucchini flowers. One key reason for returning to Portello Rosso is to try the items we had to sacrifice on our first night!
Service is consistent and friendly. What really makes Portello Rosso a highlight on the Melbourne dining scene is its discrete location tucked in a laneway, the lovely mezzanine space, warm hues and intimate and friendly atmosphere.
A lovely night indeed!
