Sleeping in is so overrated when you've got trendy little breakfast hangouts like Porgie and Mr Jones. Revamping an old violin workshop, this European-style Hawthorn cafe/restaurant prides itself on its classy appearance and funky appeal, from its simple wooden-floored interiors to its sunny Tuscan courtyard. Even the chooks are happy, with poached free-range eggs and other organic treats, such as noisette breads, on hand. Sink your teeth into a fresh scone or pastry any time during the day, from breakfast to morning tea to lunch and high tea.

Great selection & buzzing atmosphere
I had a nice filling lunch at Porgie + Mr Jones yesterday. Although it was a short wait to get our food, because the place was packed, it was worth the wait. I had the best chicken baguette & my partner had the smashed avacado, feta & mushrooms which he said was divine. I found it hard to choose as everything on the menu looked good from the salad to the piadini's. Make sure you leave room for dessert as the pastries are succulent & go well with the coffee.

ordinary service
the food was (very) nice, but unfortunately our Sunday breakfast expereince was a little ruined before we sat down and ordered - with poor service and confusion over seating. They certainly need a better system to cope with busy breakfast rush, or perhaps allowing you to order a coffee while you wait? Overall, a bit disappointing - with a a variety of other good breakfast joints in the same area, who needs bad service on a lazy Sunday.

No Problem Here..
I had been planning to make the trip to P + MJ for a few weeks now and after the last few reviews I was a little worried I might be wasting my time. As I walked through the door I was greeted very politely by the young gentleman, who within minutes had me a table, a paper! and a coffee on the way. When he handed me the menu he suggested and explained some of the dishes. My order of Smashed Avocado was out of the kitchen in 15 minutes. Definitely the right choice I was thinking. I ordered another coffee witch took a bit longer to come up as they were getting Very busy. But this wasn t a problem as the coffee was excellent. As I left I was thanked and very happy with that start to my day!

I love you Porgie!
Some friends gave us the recommendation to go to this place and after reading a few reviews ourselves we decided to go... It was pumping! Great atmosphere, great food and smiley service! We had to wait a little while for a seat as the place was packed! But once we were seated, the service was super friendly! The FOOD came out in good time and was mouth watering! Mmm.. Banana Bread with maple syrup mascarpone and a berry compote! My Wife had the Smashed avocado with thyme buttered mushrooms and topped with feta...One Word: YUM! but most importantly the coffee (allpress) was superb from presentation to the overall taste! We will be back Porgie! See you Soon!

Painful Service
This was our second visit to P and MR J and it was bitterly disappointing. I understand that good places are busy in the weekends but we were told there might be a small wait on coffee and on food as there was only 1 barista and 1 chef. We were ok with this but after an hour and asking twice about our coffee we finally left without it! Breakfast was stock standard but we had to go in and find a waitress to order it! There seemed to be plenty of staff walking around looking busy but obviously doing very little. However the chef was obviously alot more efficient then the barista as we got our meals within 20 minutes. I was very disappointed as I had heard so many positive reviews prior but I definitely wouldn't be venturing out there again.

Terrible terrible service
The first time I went to Porgie and Mr Jones the service and food was great. This is the second time I've been to Porgie and Mr Jones. There was no one greeting us when we first stepped in. There was plenty of staff around. One even walked past us without looking and acknowledging us and we just stood there like idiots by the door. When we were finally seated, we were not served and menu did not come for at least 10 minutes. In the end, we chose to walk out of the cafe. This was really terrible service and having read all the really good reviews with service in this cafe, I'm really really absolutely disappointed.
