Podfood

Just across from Canberra International Airport lies the tranquil oasis of roses and orchards that is Pialligo Plant Farm. Nestled within the farm, in a 1930s cottage, is Podfood. The hardwood floors remain, but the rest of the space is refurbished and modernised, taking advantage of the light that streams through the windows. The large deck is dotted with striking orange seats and dappled with sunlight, allowing diners to fully appreciate the natural setting. Although Podfood is designed as a cafe, the weekly changing menu features dishes that would not be out of place on any posh city menu. Podfood is great as an introduction to the gastronomic highlights of Canberra for visitors fresh off the plane, or as a semi-rural lunchtime retreat.

Lovely place to be
Great to see that Podfood has finally stepped up to the plate, the chef/owner and new staff have certainly made a big difference - good service and great menu!!. My friend and I had such a lovely time there last Thursday, we enjoyed lunch and look forward to our next visit. The place was fully booked and staff was very friendly. Just rolling up for a table might be a little risky, I suggest you make a booking........

Doesn't live up to expectations
Nice setting but... Waitress made a point of saying chef liked to cook steak medium-rare but when it arrived, it was so overcooked. I had lamb shanks but they were seriously overcooked - hard and stringy. Service was ordinary and they were in a hurry to get rid of us to set up for a function. Won't go back.

Unfriendly vibe
Podfood has a beautiful location next to the Plant Farm at Pialligo. I was there with a large group of friends for a celebratory dinner. However, we were all very put off our meal by the unfriendly management team. They made us feel quite uncomfortable and like we were putting them out when we asked for additional items. It really ruined our evening. Although the food is very good, and the setting is beautiful, none of us will return as attitude of the management team is not nice.

Garden Lunch
Because we'd tried to book twice previously but were unable to secure a table, we took that as being a sign of good food. To look at, Podfood is charming and well presented. But the service was a bit slow and blase. The menu sounded quite tempting, though what we were presented with was good but not great. I feel that too much of the food was pre-prepared. I hope that we just caught them on a bad day, as we weren't that impressed.
