Despite the German name (Pizza mein liebe means "pizza my love"), this is one good Italian pizza joint. Chef/owner Elena Bonnici serves super pizza - they've got thin, crispy bases and are topped with fresh, seasonal vegetables and some great cheeses like Taleggio, pecorino and parmigiano reggiano. There aren't a whole lot of different dishes on the menu - just pizza, calzone, salad and gelato. Service is smart and snappy and there are even gluten-free options if you ring in advance.

Ottimo...Fantastico!!
Fantastic pizza! Cooked properly. Topping well cooked. The waiters are very friendly, and nice. Fully Italian cooked pizza. The court yard not quite clean. Not a big place, and not exactly good looking. For all pizza lovers this restaurant is a dream. I would want to visit again!

Best Pizza in Melbourne
Sure the staff can be a bit too cool for school and the tables are way too close together but everything is forgiven once the pizza's arrive. I've worked my way through pretty much the whole menu so trust me when I say the Armando's pizza is the best. I've tried most of Melbourne's 'best' pizza restaurants including Ladro's and for quality of food and general vibe Pizza Mein Liebe is definitely top dog. It also won't hurt your wallet which you've got to love.

Great pizza but...
Booking ahead on a busy Friday night, we were happy to be seated almost on time - but that was where the good service ended. We ordered drinks immediately. After 40mins we had to get up and ask for our drinks to be delivered and our pizza order to be taken. The pizza took another 40 mins to come and the wait staff were unapologetic (maybe they were just having a bad night?). But the pizza was terrific! Not the best in town though, and certainly not worth waiting an hour for. It was so late it was getting laughable so we decided to order an equally delicious dessert pizza, but it also took an hour to come! Glad I have tried it, as word was going around work that it was good pizza. Wont go there again though.

Love it!
Pizza Meine Liebe.. There is a reason why this place is booked within an inch of it's life. The pizza is awesome. Even though I was too full to move I couldn't take my eyes off the dessert board. Pannacotta with stewed orange and dark caramel. It was to die for.
This place is not your average pizza place. The detailed menu and quality of food make you confident that there are chefs in the (exposed) kitchen. The service is good - though not often cheery as they are run off their feet most times (our NZ waitress was an exception though - she was terrific! we tipped her 25% of the meal price she was that good.)
This place has an arty atmos, and is a great choice for a quality meal at a decent price - Two people for under $50. Great value. If you haven't already - you must experience this place - but best to book first!

Not At All As Expected
After many attempts to even get a table at pizza meine liebe, we got in for dinner on Saturday evening. bringing our own wine with us we were quite happy to sit and have a quiet glass as we waited to be served. Well we sat for sometime and did not receive any attention from the waitstaff with our wine still waiting. So once we were approached by staff, I had to request to have the bottle opened. The order was taken and salad we asked for sat on the counter for 20 minutes before we received one of the two pizzas we ordered. The other pizza arrived 10 minutes later. the straw that broke the camel's back was when we received the bill and paid in cash, we did not receive the change as they were rude enought to assume it was a tip for the service we didn't receive! So, stick to takeaway pizza is my advice, the food was great but unfortunately the service really let it down.

How About
One of the poorer pizza experiences I have had in Melbourne. While we had made a booking in advance we were crammed in to a trestle table with two places short. When we had asked to make an addition to our order 10 minutes after it was taken at 7:05pm we were denied by the waiter who claimed that this would not fit in with our 6pm-8pm seating time. The entire time we felt unnecessarily rushed. When our pizzas finally arrived we found the bases to be tough, dense and chewy as if the dough had not been adequately proofed or the pizzas had been cooked on too high a heat to churn them out quicker. In addition, the toppings were bland and rather uninspiring, although they did seem appealing on paper. Overall, I would say at these premium pizza prices don't bother!
