After much success with Pizza e Birra in Sydney's Surry Hills, tuned-in culinary entrepreneur Mauro Marcucci decided it was time to spread his wings south of the border. The result is a St Kilda-style twin of the original, characterised by the same fusion of traditional Italian cuisine and Australian ales. Located on the former Termini site, the restaurant sits smugly at the mouth of the Fitzroy Street club-hopping strip and alongside two of Melbourne's top summertime drinking spots, the Metropol and Lionel.
The name is a simple summary of this place's offerings (you don't have to speak Italian to translate it as just "pizza and beer") but a quick glance at the menu reveals a heck of a lot more. If you've overdosed on pizza, line your stomach instead with arancini balls, risotto, maybe a plate of seafood such as the barramundi on warm lentil salad, or their signature pappardelle with duck ragout. The pizzas are served piping hot from the woodfired oven (no, that stack of wood outside is not just a rustic prop), with cheese still bubbling on the top. Popular pizzas include the gamberi e rucola, with mozzarella, prawns, cherry tomatoes and rocket; or the sopressa, with tomato, mozzarella and slices of spicy cured sausage.
The venue also houses a separate bar area with local and Italian wines available by the glass as well as a host of Australian boutique beers. The star of the show is the restaurant's own birra, produced at Holgate Brewhouse in Victoria's Macedon Ranges.

Wonderful!!!
Wonderful pizza!!! Great flavour, thin pizza dough which was excellent! Awesome music in the back ground. The dessert I had was outstanding! The service was great. The pizza was amazing, but I have been to two other italian restaurants whose pizza was an inch better. I highly recommend this restaurant.

A comforting leisure.
A very comforting place to eat at. The only little problem with the pizza was that the edges were burnt, and the artichoke was placed in one big lump. Waiters very welcoming but took a while to write my order down, and didn't take my plate away when I was finished. As for the dessert m-a-r-v-e-l-o-u-s !!!!!!!!! I would come to Pizza e' Birra again. Highly recommend.

Fabulous!
Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. The food was fabulous, delicious olives and grilled cheese for entree, with some of the most tender calamari I have ever tasted. Amazing duck pasta for mains, and there was just enough room for a mind blowing panna cotta for dessert. My only disappointment was that I couldn't fit more food in. Great wine list too. Friendly and attentive service from people who know good food.

Very disappointed
Took over an hour for the food to come, we all ordered from the specials board- risotto, duck pasta and fish, the food was terrible. The service was beyond terrible, we didn't get to ask for second round of drinks and I ordered wine that never came. Shame will never go there again!
