With a sibling already doing a roaring trade among Yeronga locals, this new entry in the trendy Barracks complex serves a slew of similar offerings as well as options for those not too keen on the pizza-pie. For starting nibbles, there are mushroom and pancetta aranchini, tomato, basil and goat's cheese bruschetta, and an antipasto plate featuring olives and prosciutto.
The pizzas take a traditional trip though the heart of the Southern port city of Naples, with crispy wood-fired crusts and toppings such as prosciutto, sausage and mozzarella with a lemon and rocket dressing, or the pizzeria's take on a "pizza bianco" - a pizza without tomato sauce - topped with potato, rosemary, stracchino cheese and garlic.

Pity about the Chilli!
Pizzeria 1889 is a generally pleasant Italian dining experience. I had dined here with friends a few weeks earlier, and was very impressed with the Cabonara, as I found it to be nicely indulgent but not too heavy. It had a nice balance. However, when I took my husband here for dinner a few weeks later, I was somewhat disappointed.
The service was excellent and friendly, but I left hungry, due to a vital and very dominant ingredient being omitted from the description of the Seared Calamari Salad. There was absolutely no mention of chilli in this dish, and well, I just could not eat it as it was far too hot for my tastes. It was doused in the stuff. Yet, the salad was merely described as "Seared calamari, rocket, cherry tomato and red onion". Had they mentioned that the dish was practically marinated in chilli, I would not have chosen it. When I mentioned it to the waiter, I got the impression that quite a few customers are surprised by this too.
So an otherwise nice restaurant, if only the menu descriptions were more accurate.

Fall from grace
6mths ago we were in brisbane and were recommended by a hotel to visit this establishment. We were impressed to the utmost. Unfortunately, on our recent visit we found that the quality of food had significantly declined. Service was amazing, however, the prawn pasta and chicken parmigiana that we ordered this visit left a LOT to be desired. The pasta was watery and the parmigiana was incredibly dry, served with a VERY bland pasta topped with only a knob of garlic butter.
A true fall from grace, and a great disappointment.

Not Paddo
There seems to be a twee pretension among the tenants at the Barracks that they are in Paddington. Can't see how they can be as they are 300 m from the City / Milton boundary on the City side. Pizza better than most but too fussy - leaves on nearly everything.
