Ask and you shall receive. Just when this end of Church Street was crying out for a great new cafe, as if by divine intervention along comes this little gem.
It's all a bit biblical really, but then so is the name of said cafe. "Pillar of Salt" is a reference to a chapter in Genesis where a woman is turned to salt for turning around to look at Sodom after being commanded to get out. But regardless of where the name came from, Pillar of Salt is here and we can all rejoice because of it. The Five Senses coffee coming out of the brand new Synesso machine is some of the best in Richmond and the fresh cafe fare, prepared by chef Steve Svensen, is first rate.
Match that with the exposed brick interior, communal tables and retractable roof in the courtyard and this place has all the ambience it needs to quickly become a favourite for many people.

Welcoming Atmosphere and fantastic service!
Pillar of Salt has an absolutely fantastic atmosphere. I come and work from here and they are constantly refilling your glass, happy for you to sit in a corner all day and order drinks as you please - even if you don't rack up a big bill. The staff are super friendly, the coffees are fantastic and they welcome you with open arms. It's a cafe you feel comfortable in as the staff remember you - and they all know what good service involves. Well done, I have told all my friends.
