Phnom Penh

For those after an authentic Cambodian meal in Canberra, there is literally only one place to go: right here at Phnom Penh. Apart from it being the only one of its kind in this locale, it is a restaurant of exceptional quality. The tables are decorated with traditional woven silks and the room is richly decorated with plants and artwork. Children are catered for with drawing activities, if they aren't gobsmacked by the view of the Brindabella Ranges. The table setting on the terrace can also be customised to suit customers' wants. Although predominantly Cambodian, other Asian dishes make it onto the menu, with tempting French desserts to follow. Chef Sambath Bo has also matched up the meals with his own wine recommendations.

Excellent Cambodian food unique in Canberra
I went to Phnom Penh with my family to try new food and had a wonderful time. Rich in flavours, the fish Amok was just superb and for my husband the BBQ lamb was just mouthwatering. The chef came to our table and recommended our dishes and really, it is one of the rare restaurant where you can meet the chef and get to know better about Cambodian culture. I really recommend this place, and the people are very kind and helpful... Also the prices are very reasonable givne the complexity of the dishes in the menu list.

Fish or Chicken
I wanted to try "Phnom Penh" because it's the only Cambodian in town and I hadn't had Kmer food since I was in Cambodia a few years ago.
As you enter "Phnom Pehn" it actually looks and feels like a restraunt in Phnom Pehn with it's bad decor and cheesy Asian music. The staff are less than attentive, which you would never experience in Cambodia, but they're are not rude. When we were there, they were quick to take our order but I heard a large group complaining that they were waiting too long.
I ordered the Chilli Prawn Skewers for entre and the Chicken Amok and Cambodian Sizzling Beef for mains. Unfortunately we were served the Fish Amok not the Chicken Amok but we gave the chciken a go anyway.
The food was lovely. The typical Cambodian salty/sour/pepper combination with the beef was great. The fish amok was quite tasty, almost like a peanut satay. Total meal cost $45-ish.
