It looks like a regular chicken shop from the outside, but Petersham Charcoal Chicken proves that you can't judge a book by its cover - no siree. While fresh Portuguese chickens and burgers do a roaring trade in the takeaway area downstairs, the fully licensed restaurant area upstairs also packs out constantly, perhaps due to authentic delicacies like the classic Portuguese salted cod dish, bacalhau. The house-made chilli sauce is also a hot-shot attraction at this Petersham institution.
