Perugino

In 1962, in Perugino, the provincial capital of Umbria, a teenage Giuseppe Pagliaricci set about mastering the art of traditional country cooking. More than 40 years on, he's wiser, considerably wealthier and living here in Perth, but his allegiance to simple, home-style Italian cooking hasn't faltered. You can taste it in everything from the signature charcoal-grilled baby goat chops and the pan-fried garlic tiger prawns, to the borlotti bean soup and the house-made jams in the desserts. A lot of thought has been put into the 80-strong wine list and the impressive wall-mounted display of vintage labels. Adding the finishing touches to his elegant but unpretentious fine-diner, his wife, son and daughter offer a warm welcome in the foyer and friendly, attentive service in the stunning glass-roofed main dining area.

It was all going so well....and then the mains arrived.
I walked in with such high hopes, we were seated efficiently, by very friendly staff, the wait service I could not fault, everyone seemed to working at a million miles an hour like a well oiled machine on this busy Saturday night.
The ambience of the restaurant is lovely and well appointed. The menu has a variety to suit all tastes, although all the pasta dishes are only in the entree section of the menu. I ordered the veal and my husband had the lamb rack which was the special of the evening.
My veal was bland and boring, even though it was covered with a thick gravy and the rack of lamb which the waitress explained had to be served medium to medium rare came out well on the way to well done and was therefore stringy.
The wine list was extensive covering all the bases, and even had a few half bottles to choose from. Overall the service made up for the downfall with the meal and it was an enjoyable night.

Eventful evening
We chose this restaurant for our special family dinner.
All of us are vegetarians, we rang the place before booking. Over phone we were assured that there is enough choice and also the chef can modify the menu to suit the vegetarian option from the menu. We made the booking after reconfirming that they can cater for vegetarians.

We were well greeted and shown to our table and were given the menu. We had a look at the menu and found not many choice as such for the entree and none for the mains! When the waiter (a lady) asked for our order, we had to again explain our predicament and remind her that we had done the booking on the assurance that we will have enough choice for vegetarians. Though she acknowledged that she had said there is vegetarian options, she was very argumentative and rude to us saying that "they are Italians and they cook only with meat and fish"! and "not many options are there as vegetarians". Though it was upsetting and spoiling the mood for the special dinner, we still tried to work out an order and asked for her suggestion as she kept repeating that the chef can make something for us. But to our surprise and disappointment she kept asking that we had to pick something from the main meal option of nonvegetarian! We were not offered any vegetarian mains at all and on top of that she was rude and arrogant to comment "like Chinese food their meals cannot be mixed and that vegetarians should pick only vegetarian restaurants"!

So they do not understand customer requests and are rude and uncaring to the customer's request. It was an unpleasant experience and I hope someone else doesn't need to go through the same.

Awesome
Booked a table for two & ended up sitting next to a table for 20 on a busy Saturday night. Was thinking the worst when we saw what was next to us - but how wrong could we be.
The service, attention to detail & of course the food was the best we have had in years.
I can't believe that we have not been here before and am disappointed that so many years have gone by & we live so close! We will be back.
Oh & the table for 20 were looked after in the same professional way that we were.
Thx Perugino - we will be back
