In a hyper bright yellow glow on George Street, Pepper Lunch catches your eye with what looks like a standard fast food chain at first. But, although Pepper Lunch has more than 200 outlets in Japan, here in Australia this do-it-yourself steakhouse is something of a novelty (in fact, it's the only one in Australia - for the time being). The concept is simple: you cook your own sizzling steak on a hot plate, after choosing from quality cuts like rib eye and juicy cut, and seasoned and marinated options like pepper steak, teriyaki chicken and salmon pepper rice. Pepper Lunch provides a quick fix in the CBD without being a takeaway joint.
