The burgeoning cafe scene of Northcote is all the better for having boutique cafes like Penny Farthing Espresso in its midst. Taking its name from the now-ancient penny-farthing bicycle, this convivial cafe takes its coffees and teas seriously, without taking itself too seriously.
The baristas get cracking on single origin and blend coffees, but you'll also find premium black, green and herbal fruit infusion teas if that's really your cup of tea. The nourishing, largely organic breakfast fare varies from homemade bircher muesli to a "fetta and avocado smash" on sourdough, while lunch is more about fresh gourmet salads and sandwiches.
