Pendolino

Located in the historic Strand Arcade, the Pendolino complex includes a restaurant, a cafe and wine bar and a specialty olive oil store. Headed by Nino Zoccali, famed former chef of Otto and Nove, Pendolino is leaving a mark on the Sydney fine-dining scene. Zoccali's menu utilises Italy's most coveted olive oils and produce, and features an incredible selection of fine Italian wines. The restaurant is very chic - dark stained wood and rich, dark colours.

Takes a West Australian
Takes a West Australian and a Sicilian to teach Sydney to enjoy fresh and sesonal fare. :) The city is blessed to have both in the wonderful Nino.

He has a respect for the ingredients that many others struggle to match. And that is simply because he does not over-work the food. It is cooked simply and with care and love that only a Mediterranean could exude. There are no attempts at that ridiculous "plate art". Food is to be eaten and its value is in the music it plays in your mouth and in your heart.

Nino does all of this in spades. He matches his dishes to the olive oils that regale the olioteca and then matches all to his wine list.

If there was one minor complaint (well two) - the restaurant section can get quite noisy when fully booked and this makes conversation difficult, and....it can be quite a task to book given its popularity.

What can I say. More power to this eatery.

Lovely ambience and food to match
I was expecting good food but it was even better. Had prosciutto and lardo, accompanied by thin and crisp carta musica and delicate crunchy homemade grissini. They got the lardo just right, thin and lightly flavoured. Grilled quail for mains, juicy, tasty - absolutely delicious, and dessert of the pear in campari is absolutey sublime. Food presentation is great. Atmosphere really good, darkish, bottles everywhere, and olive oil is as celebrated as wine. Two waiters, one young, funny and helpful, the other older and rather stuck in his ways, ie we were told what a truffle was and how it was served - as if we needed to know that! Despite that, a great addition to Sydney dining, only sorry it took me so long to try it!

Delightful
The food is melt in the mouth. Oh my god the pasta is fantastic, I am not a pasta person but it was out of this world, I completely regretted getting ravioli with lamb as my starter I could have had it as all 3 courses, they tell you pasta is Nino's specialty and it really is..Fantastic. Can't wait to go back and the location is an added bonus.... The place to eat in Sydney.

A great addition to the Strand
I've always loved the Strand Arcade and I'm glad Pendolino has opened. Food was delightful and the atmosphere was great. The service, however, was a tiny bit slow and the coffee was not great.
That said, I will return.
