Definitely not Penang food
I went there with the expectation of eating my favourite Penang food as I grew up in Penang. Unfortunately, many things on the menu looked alien to me. Many dishes are definitely not Penang and the iconic assam laksa and nasi lemak were not even on the menu! The food taste nothing like authentic Penang food compared to other Malaysian restaurants in Melbourne.
Service is quite good for an Asian restaurant standard. The atmosphere is quite good as well.

Great service
I found Penang Affair while looking for gluten-free eating options on this website. We got to Penang at about 7.30pm and were greeted by the owner of the restaurant - the service in this place is second to none. The food is at the same level; all the dishes were finished very quickly by our party of five people. I could only fault one of the dishes - I found the sauce on the prawns to be a bit bland compared to the other dishes we got. We ordered the banquet and the owner came around to our table and asked what kind of food we would like (seafood,beef,chicken,etc), and then the food just kept coming! It was great, and the beer list was quite impressive as well. Beers of the world! Overall, top place, great atmosphere, great food, great service - what more could you want! They tailored our banquet to a gluten-free member of our dinner group which was great as well.

a nice night
I revisited Penang Affair recently having not been for a number of years. Nice to see that nothing has changed. My favourite dishes still hold their own. (The stuffed bean curd entree and the ribs main) The host still personifies exceptional service even after all these years.
