Peko Peko

Only a handful of small tables - with chairs clad in puffed, asiatic cushions - dot Peko Peko's floor space, including two outside a few metres away from where the tram slides and screeches past on Smith Street. Inside, the Zen calm of the restaurant's ambience resonates in the simple and stylish modern Japanese decor, the soft music and the pleasant service. The menu is divided into small, medium and big foods, which includes the obligatory miso soup, sushi and sashimi, but then expands into a more original choice of gyozas, dons, udons and salads. Squid lovers will dream about the miso ika, which is stir-fried in miso and chilli soy sauce. The wines are reasonably priced, tastefully selected and do an excellent job of accompanying protein-rich foods.

This Japanese restaurant rocks
Food at Peko Peko is very authentic (having just come back from an eating tour of Japan); delicately flavoured and delicious. It is also quite well priced and the fit out of the restaurant very cool/ understated. I would like to see a more extensive sake range - there's only one on the menu! But keep it coming and you'll soon forgive and forget. I would recommend booking ahead.

Great Japanese food at great prices!
This little restaurant was a surprise and we kind of stumbled on it by mistake. Really nice interior, delicious food (loved the Japanese pancake), service a little slow but there seemed to only be a couple of people in the kitchen. Don't forget to try the gyoza too. Yum!

Loved peko Peko
Food was really good and so was the service. The atmosphere was very relaxed and groovy. Good wine and good prices. Really loved it and will be back for more.
