More than 20 years ago, Mr Patee opened what was to be the first of many Thai restaurants, both for Melbourne and the Patee family. Since then such eateries can be found everywhere in this fair city, but Patee Thai has remained close to its roots, serving up authentic dishes to loyal customers.
As with many traditional Thai restaurants, most of the items on the menu should look familiar. Mainstays like curry puffs and fish cakes feature in the entrees, along with the tangy prawn tom yum soup. Fish fillets in a spicy kaffir lime leaf sauce are a favourite with the locals, as is the duck leg braised in a dark soy and five spice sauce.
Groups of diners can experience a traditional Thai dining experience. Book in for the banquet, which covers the full spectrum of the menu, and enjoy it seated comfortably on cushions at low Thai tables.
