This historical establishment is decorated quite flamboyantly, with large open spaces on two levels, cushy red booths, comfortable wooden chairs and a colourful cartoonish painting of Ned Kelly splashed across one wall. More than just a pancake house, at Pancakes on the Rocks you can stay for the whole day, starting with a big breakfast of buttermilk pancakes, crispy fried bacon and eggs with grilled banana and pineapple on the side, enjoy a gourmet pizza or savoury crepes for lunch and then move on to ribs, steak or flathead fillets fresh from the grill for dinner. The specialised kids menu offers much more than chicken nuggets and chips, and there's even a range of merchandise up for grabs, including caps, t-shirts and gift vouchers. Considering pancakes are their speciality, kids are a common fixture in the restaurant, most often accompanied by the rest of the family. However it's also quite a popular lunch destination, so be prepared to fight for your table - unless you want to make a reservation.

bad sevice, cold food
We were oon holiday in Sydney and went to Pancakes on the Rocks after reading these pages. When they finally decided to serve us the food was stone cold. The staff seemed surprised when we asked for hot food instead. When the replacemnt food arrived it was warm rather than hot.

YUM
Usually have to wait in line to go in, but once you're in, it's great!! There aren't enough of these type of places around especially if you have a a sweet tooth. Wouldn't come here for a major meal though, more for just something small or dessert.

Favourite place to snack any time of the day
This place is awesome the first few times you come here. A bit busy but I guess that creates the buzzy atmosphere. We're always here after a night of debauchery, so getting kind of sick of the food but yummy smoothies though! Food is classic, lots to choose from.

Yummy Pancakes, 24/7
Devil's Delight - chocaholics dream! Chocolate pancakes, chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce! Traditional buttermilk pancakes with maple sauce are also fantastic, available with cream and ice cream. Other menu items (crepes, ribs - pork not beef, nachos) are also good. Pizzas are great! Best of all, it's available 24/7. Be prepared to queue on Friday and Saturday nights as they don't take bookings. Yet to try their other two venues at Northmead and Darling Harbour (both are not 24/7 though they still open quite late, 11pm and midnight respectively)

pancakes......
Myself and friends went to this restaurant after being told how fantastic and famous the pancakes were by many a restaurant guide, not to mention the brass plaques screwed to the wall of the restaurant stating their brilliance. There are so many beautiful spots to eat breakfast on the harbour, that are not only visually stunning but have such a fun atmosphere... 'Pancakes on the Rocks' is not one of them! You are sent down to a dull basement, and handed a menu, it's your basic lunch and breakfast menu, but with a pancake base. The pancakes themselves were tough and dry, not fluffy and 'to die for' as promised. Our smoothies took 20mins, and they were almost warm. Fair enough, it is a restaurant you could eat at, and have a satisfying fill.... but, they shouldn't advertise it as so 'famous' or as a place of 'excellence', because there are a thousand other nicer places to eat in the great Sydney!
