It's all Greek for me
A group of four of us ate there last night and had a good time. We chose the Greek banquet rather than the ones listed on the menu. This was on the whiteboard specials menu. Our first course was a selection of dips and bread, good garlic bread and haloumi. The dips were excellent, the haloumi was well dressed and hot and the serve of garlic bread, generous and garlicky. The skordialia and taramasalata were standouts.
The second course was a well prepared and fresh Greek salad. The spinach leaves and mild chillis were slightly out of the mainstream, but worked well. This came with a large platter of perfectly fried calamari - no tentacles, so am guessing that it came from imported squid tubes, but it was nonetheless the best squid that I have had for ages. (I'm on a one woman mission to send back anything that comes pre-crumbed in a frozen box.) Plenty of lemon too.
The final course was souvlaki. Five or six delicious skewers of lamb and chicken.
Service was friendly, efficient and responsive despite the restaurant being completely full. The atmosphere was chaotic, friendly and welcoming... just like a Greek household really.
The bill $A23 per head and $2 per head for corkage. We were four hungry and enthusiastic (greedy?) diners. There was a slight struggle to finish everything, but we almost managed. Highly recommended. Oh and there was a belly dancer.

Never disappointing!
We have dined at Ouzeri a number of times over the last 6 months and its always a favourite to bring out of town visitors to.
We have never been disappointed with the food, and have always been warned how long the expected wait will be on food when we are seated, however it has never been more than 45 minutes or so even on an extremely busy night.
As for comments about the platters not being good value, I find this unbelievable as there is more than enough food on a platter to feed three people and for $30 I think that is amazing value! When it is just my partner and I sharing a platter we always leave feeling full and usually with food still on the platter!
We have visitors at the moment and are planning on going tomorrow night for dinner, and I urge anyone not to be put off by the poor review below.

Disappointing!
We were recommended this restaurant to eat at but we were served our meal almost two and a half hours late. Other guests were seated at the same time as us and were served sooner and had left long before we had even eaten. The tables are not big enough so consequently, it was cramped. One of our guests spilt his plate of food on his lap due to there being no room. We were told that the platters were good value, but we all found them very disappointing for the price of $30-$40. For a bill of $120 we will never go there again. It's a shame because the restaurant has so much potential.

Great Greek at a Great Price
Ouzeri is a must!

If in a group of friends you must try the banquet, a selection of Greek delights and the best calamari in Brisbane. If you're just after a main the slow-cooked lamb off the specials board will tickle your taste buds until they are dancing with joy.

When you see the bill you may dance with joy too as Ouzeri is great value and with BYO it's hard to go past.

At times you may need to wait a little while for your food but sit back, enjoy the great atmosphere and you'll sink away into West End charm.
