As happens so often with cafes these days it's all about name-checking - who designed the milk crate seats and what macarons they buy in. So, in the interest of brevity, here are the things you need to know about Outpost: the machine is a La Marzocco, the bean of choice is Campos and the sandwiches are made on Brasserie bread.
Now for the intanglible aspects. The decor has enough quirky touches to feel cosy without appearing generic and the service is just plain friendly. The northern beaches has long had a no-good-cafes stigmatism attached to it, but if quality hole-in-the-wall operations like this continue to spring up that will soon change.
