Ottoman Cuisine is the last word in Turkish food across the country. Owner/chef Serif Kaya's masterly hand with flavours permeates the exquisite chargrilled meats and the extensive entrees designed for sharing. It can be hard not to fill up on dips with pide which is baked in-house, but worth it to try the skewered hiramasa kingfish pieces marinated in lemon and bay leaves, chargrilled and served with leeks, or the chargrilled de-boned spatchcock, marinated with mild chilli and lemon and served with cracked wheat pilaff.
Keep an ear out for the specials or ask the waiter to create a banquet for you, and remember the entrees are too good to pass up.

Great food and OK service
Visited here for lunch and the food was excellent. The atmosphere was nice - a beautiful day with sun streaming through. The service was good. Not brilliant but not bad either. We would come back again.

Well worth a visit
The restaurant is quite large and not very cosy. We were seated next to the window, which we noticed were quite dirty. Our waitress was very nice and professional, although she rattled off the specials and I could not keep track of the extensive list they offered. The food was divine. So delicious, we enjoyed everything we ordered. We were wishing we had ordered the degustation menu. Once we got our mains, it was hard to get someone's attention to order another round of drinks, which was a little frustrating. Overall a good experience, the dishes were small but so tasty we will definitely be going back.

Degustation delight
My friends and I came to try the degustation to celebrate a special occassion. Ottomans is a little fancier than we're used to,and some places like this have waiters walking around with poles up their arses - at Ottomans however the staff were extremely friendly and worked to make us feel at ease. They explained the food and wine to us, which was very tasty but not amazing, but all in all it was worth the expense for a good night out.

Lovely restaurant but lacking any Turkish decor
As there were only three in my group we couldn't get the banquet but with recommendations from the waitress we started with shared entrees - stuffed zucchini flowers, marinated mushrooms and a prawn dish - all delicious.
We got seperate mains and although I really enjoyed my spatchcock which was served with an amazing pilaf, I thought that for $30 the size of my dish, as well those of my friends (kofte, marinated chicken) was a bit small.
Dessert was also lovely, with a 'chewy' icecream served with all dishes (we had baklava and poached pear). Desserts were close to $15, an amount that I find too expensive.
Although we had a lovely time and the venue was beautiful, because there were only a few other groups for lunch there wasn't much atmosphere and it was especially disappointing that there was no Turkish influence in the decor at all. I've heard the old Ottomon had this, it's a shame they haven't carried it across to their new venue. I also think Ottoman will need to watch their prices, as I did think the items were a bit overpriced.

YES
This is a great restaurant. No, it does not look Turkish, this is true, it has a lovely ambience: stylish yet relaxed to a point.
My husband and I have dined here many times, and with groups. When dining just the two of us, we nearly always have the degustation but not with wines and it is very reasonably priced when compared to others AND very generous.
All the flavours are wonderful but of course, the zucchini flower...yum.
Extensive wine list which aims to please all palates and most budgets.
The service is great: on the ball, knowledgeable and keen.
Great for romantic dinners, birthdays or other celebrations, business dinners and lunches. Also a lovely wedding venue.

Turkish Delight
Great dining experience. Extensive turkish menu and doesn't leave you feeling full like other turkish style restaurants. Food is well presented and staff are friendly and accommodating. We dined on a Saturday night and venue was full. While the atmosphere was noisy, we enjoyed what Ottoman Cuisine has to offer.

A bit rich?
While the food is very good and the service is also good, Ottoman's prices are getting a bit excessive.

Delicious Turkish Dishes
This is a great restaurant on many levels.
Our experience there was ALL GOOD.
The seating is very spacious and comfortable, the main room is not noisy and the service was always professional and efficient. We always had prompt service when we needed it but not intrusive at all.
But the main point is the delicious food. We shared the banquet menu and all dishes were fantastic and plentiful. We always had bread on the table and the salads that accompanied the mains were abundant and scrumptious. Every dish was perfectly cooked and carefully prepared and served.
We all loved all the food and had an excellent relaxing evening out.
I would return again any day!

Where was the Turkish influence
We were looking for somewhere special to eat with friends from Sydney. We had tried for 2 weeks to get into the restaurant and finally got a cancellation. On arrival there was queue out the door waiting to be seated. Finally we were shown to our table in a seperate and smaller dining room.
No one asked if we would like a drink so we were off to a bad start. After asking a passing waiter for the drinks list we then proceeded to wait and wait for the drinks order to be taken. A waitress came over to explain the menu and she was fantastic and very friendly. Unfortunately she did not look after our table after that.
The menu was lacking in all things Turkish. I ordered lamb cutlets and that's what I got with no flavour - I certainly can do a far more adventurous effort for a 1/4 of the price. Our food when arrived was not hot and we did not have our drinks. We couldn't get anyone to assist us and when I called a passing waitress over she was so busy she couldnt even stop walking to listen to me.

Overrated and overpriced
Having dined at Ottoman's previous location and being lovers of Middle Eastern cuisine, we were expecting the same lively, vibrant atmosphere with great service and excellent food - but if our taxi driver hadn't been female I would have thought we were being set up for a mugging when we pulled up in the middle of a dark backstreet and realised we were here!
On being shown to our table to await the arrival of another couple we were offered water that had been sitting on the table. We declined and ordered drinks (soda water) but they took over 10 minutes to arrive.
The menu was impressive and we all ordered different entrees that arrived promptly but our bread didn't make it to the table until we asked for it and then was whisked away with our entree platters.
On ordering, our waitress had asked if we wanted to share a salad and we agreed that would be nice. Just as well as the main courses were not served with any garnish or extras on the plate - very average size servings and none of us were particularly bowled over by our meals - and a bowl of mixed lettuce cost $24! Dessert selection was tempting but portions were miniscule and overcooked. Wine list was limited and ridiculously overpriced.
Pricing can be excused if you have a great dining experience with scrumptious food and excellent service but all in all this turned out to be a very average evening and Canberra certainly has a lot better to offer. The atmosphere is staid, the service is no better than your average cafe and the food was really nothing special.
