Othello

This Southbank spot specialises in large platters of Greek food, with options for vegetarians, carnivores and seafood lovers. The mezze platter - featuring tzatziki, taramosalata, eggplant, olives, feta, antipasto, lima beans and bread - is a good start and is best followed by the mixed grill for two: lamb cutlets, lamb souvlaki, sieftalies, pastourma, loukanika and a zesty Greek salad. A good selection of imported beers, wines and ouzo keeps the mood merry.

Not happy
I recently dined at Othello resaurant with my daughter. We asked if we could be seated outside, but were told that the seating had been booked. But while we were there they moved extra tables outside for customers who arrived after us. The staff were disinterested in us, were unfriendly and made no effort to ask if we were happy with the quality of the food. Both dishes that we ordered were very bland and the lamb used in my dish was very poor quality (I have never used this inferior cut of meat). I would certainly not recommend this resaurant.

Very Average/Overpriced
Positives:
Mains arrived within 5mins of ordering.
The young staff are very attentive.

Negatives:
Not very busy for a Saturday night which is concerning.
Gyros was dry/disappointing
Saganaki was terrible, poor quality, badly presented.
Overpriced for what you get.

Disappointed
Went there for our anniversary. The owners just said hi, didn't smile and gave us a table in the corner. There were flies and the occasional bird would fly in. The waiter (old guy) just throws down the menu. When the meal arrived (pretty promptly which was good), the waiter banged down the plates and walked off. Wedges, were boring. Then we managed to get a younger waiter and he was more helpful and friendly and helped us choose dessert. Sorbet and cheese cake was nice but by then it was a bit too late to make us decide to come back. It is like some owners don't know how to run a business properly.

Terrible Service
6 of us for a business dinner rated this the worst service we had ever experienced. Noone to greet us when we arrived, waiting, waiting..... First order was timely then it was all downhill from there. We had one round of drinks delivered with Entree, and that was it for the night. When our mains finally arrived, we asked for more drinks (the only time we got the waiters to acknowledge us) but of course they forgot to deliver. We ate our entire main course with no drinks, not even water. A complimentary round of "free" beers with dessert did little to satisfy us. In short, too understaffed (not even a busy night) and the waiting staff seemed more intent in clearing finished tables than service existing customers.

Less than impressed!
I took my family (6 of us) for a late lunch on Saturday to Othello's restaurant - first time there - and while the food was ok, we had to ask, twice, for our drinks BOTH times we ordered them!

Very Disappointed
We lunched with some English friends (4 of us in total).
The South Bank was crowded but Othello's was not very full.
We had to wait for 15 mins to have a bottle of wine delivered and that only came when we queried the wait.
The meal was delivered before the cutlery. It took several minutes for that to arrive after the food. The meal was so so. Not very appetising.
The service seemed inexperienced.

My Time at Othello
I recently dined at Othello and must say that the service was very good, being a busy Saturday evening, the staff were friendly and very obliging. The food was fantastic, we had the banquet which we weren't able to finish. I will be back.

We were very disappointed with our dining experience at Othello. It was a birthday celebration and we had a table of 15 people. Firstly, the service was very ordinary. The waiters were ‘moody’ and not friendly or attentive at all. We had to constantly ask for service throughout the night so we could place drink orders and this was frustrating. The cuts of meat were very cheap and the dips were lacking in flavour and way too salty. The seafood platters were a joke - the prawns left much to be desired and the calamari was like rubber. This restaurant is overpriced for what you actually get. At the end of the night we were shocked to see that we were overcharged by $6 per person on the banquet fee, which was clearly advertised on their menu as $39 per head, and they charged us $45 per person. When I called this to the waiter's attention, the error was fixed without any sort of apology.
