The head chef of this much-loved eatery has one thing to say about his menu: "they love my calamari!" After one sample, you'll find it hard to disagree. Stratos (as he's known) is quite the cook and specialises in whipping up fresh seafood dishes, as well as gluten-free, vegetarian cuisine. Mains vary between $16 and $28 with Greek-style prawns being the priciest option. If the food doesn't convince you that you're in the heart of Greek Australiana, then the decor will. Large, open windows and yellow and blue walls give this place the feel of a Greek Island getaway. Then again, with a personality like Stratos holding court, you're probably halfway there.

Average
I had high expectations for Ostratos after reading the reviews which perhaps might have been the problem. Having eaten at countless outstanding Greek restaurants, I am sad to say that I found the meals at Ostratos overpriced and lacking flavour.

Good but not outstanding
Having always wanted to dine at Ostratos we finally did so recently. The food was okay without being fantastic and I have a few little complaints. The main courses came out as we were having our entrees (greek dips) so this was a bit annoying. The stuffed calamari and seafood pasta were tasty but some of the seafood was a bit tough.
We ordered 'light' beer and were charged for full strength but we didn't say anything.
The baklava that I had for dessert was delicious.
We may return with a large group for the banquet menu which looked really good.

Great food, slow service
The calamari is delicious, the meal sizes are huge and the atmosphere is light and friendly.
The only complaint was we took a long time to have our order taken, however, once taken the meals came out very quickly. They were worth the wait.

A touch of Greece in Braddon
This Taverna is fantastic! If you love moreish food and great atmosphere, this is the place to go.
The calamari is to die for, and the desserts are just like Yia-Yia (Greek for ‘Grandmother’) use to make. I would recommend this to anyone.
