No matter how many times that "Full" sign flashes they just keep opening places in Surry Hills. This one is the first of what will undoubtedly be at least a few cafe/bistros in the new deNode apartment complex.
If the charmingly rustic vibe here feels familiar, it should. Orto Trading Co. is the second coming of the team behind Redfern's ever-popular Baffi & Mo, but don't expect a carbon copy of the original. For one thing, Orto isn't a coffee and brekkie spot, it deals strictly in afternoon and evening fare. For another, the menu takes a vaguely European approach, bouncing from a distinctly English beef Wellington to more Mediterranean offers.
Despite the bevy of dining options in the area, an operation as smooth and appealing as Orto Trading Co. is almost assured to do well in its current digs. Look for this one to become a mainstay of the Surry scene in no time at all.
