Gourmet Traveller 2010 Australian Restaurant Guide - "Whether you’re taking a glass of prosecco at the bar or getting intimate with a bottle of nero d’Avola at the long, narrow communal table that runs down the centre of this attractively appointed room, the menu of mostly small things to share has you covered."
Gourmet Traveller Feature Review - "Omertà translates to a union of families, but in Eugenio Maiale’s version it’s first and foremost about the drinking of wine – and sharing some damned fine food"

Chic wine bar - Sydney style
My partner and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Omerta Wine Bar last night; delicious food, exceptional wine and great service in a sultry, brooding atmosphere. In contrast to the many wine bars of Melbourne, the more Sydney style is apparent - the space is much larger and more open, the restaurant seats more than 25, the food is equally as important as the wine and there is potential for different dining (i.e. romantic couple tables, communal middle table, bar-side small group tables etc). Makes for a really enjoyable and versatile dining experience.
We started with glass of prosecco whilst perusinig the menu, and decided to start with a plate of San Daniele prosciutto ($14), green Sicilian olives ($5) and house bread for 2 ($1.50pp) with a glass of French red. The beautiful produce has clearly been sourced with care.
Next we shared the lamb scottaditto with salsa verde ($21) with a rocket, grape and parmesan salad ($12) with an Italian red. The lamb was tender and juicy, with the salsa verde cutting through the fattiness very nicely. The salad too was lovely, again emphasising the quality produce.
For dessert we decided to head next door (but with Gelato Messina's gelato on one side and Victoria Room's cocktails on the other it was a difficult decision). With a total bill of $120 for a glorious meal we were equally satisfied and impressed. We will definitely be back, and will bring friends next time!

Will never be going back!
On my first visit to Omerta, I had a lovely evening, enjoying the food and service. Taking that into consideration I decieded to return for My birthday Dinner, big mistake. I do admit I had to make a few phone calls to change the number of guests, as I made the booking a week in advance, to convenience them. Never the less, I still expected to be looked after with a table of 15! Instead, we were crammed on to the communal table, where a group of 5 were squished next to us, especially when I had an unexpected 16th person arrive. The service was extremely slow, and on numerous occasions during the night I had to leave my seat to find a waiter. Then to top things off they charged me for 18 people instead of 16, which I didn't realise till after I had left. When I called them immediately after realising, they told me that they had done a head count and that was that. Im extremely disappointed that they ripped us off.. and upset that they ruined my birthday.
Terrible Customer Service!!!

italy in darlinghurst
ive got to say i dont get impressed that often to actually leave a comment on these websites. however i have found the exception. finally a place that oozes style without being pretentious. a touch of europe right here on our doorstep and ive got to say as a seasoned traveller to italy it is so beautiful to have found a place which feels sexy warm and uber comfortable all in a neat little package. the menu is perfect. small dishes to share over an equally impressive wine list. i will definitely be coming back here and how nice it will be to show off sydneys best to my international travellers. p.s had a risotto which took me to heaven and back.

Not so great, wont be going back
Nice atmosphere, great service. However, incredibly expensive. I would not expect to pay $4.50 for one slice of salami, and $60 for a bowl of risotto. Realise it's tapas, but not much food to tap into. Unless money isn't an issue. Food in general is less than average.

Nibbles at Omerta
How happy am I to live around the corner from Omerta. Had a delightful evening there last night. Just shared a variety of smaller dishes. The proscuitto is absolutely divine as were the mushrooms. Service was good but perhaps a little over attentive but assume that will settle as they get busier - and they will.
