After a quarter of a century in the hands of the old owners, this antique beauty has received a new lease on life with its new owners, Jennifer and Kerry Nichols. Taking over the mantle of the venerable Old George & Dragon, the pair have maintained the ethos of providing high-quality, produce-driven French-European cuisine but have given it a unique twist that is all their own. With an emphasis on local provenance, the menu is decided daily based on seasonality and sourcing the freshest possible produce.
The decor still retains its Old World charm in this beautifully preserved heritage building. Originally built in the 1830s, the Old George has collected a library of antiques and delightfully quaint accoutrements throughout its many incarnations, all of which have been delicately preserved. It's a lovely space in which to enjoy good traditional fare and perhaps a vintage wine from the very impressive cellar.

Gourmet Travller 2009 Australian Restaurant Guide - "Escoffier himself would feel at home in this 19th-century coach house-turned-restaurant, and he'd be just as comfortable with the menu that has as much period charm as the setting."

HIGHLY RECOMMEND GREAT SERVICE, GREAT FOOD!!!
Oh my god, just got back and so full, just managed to fit it all in! The food was great and awesome service, so friendly down to earth and diligent, I highly recommend for somewhere to go around the Maitland with lots of class.

It promised so much!
A warm welcome and attractive setting met our expectations for this much talked about restaurant. Sadly, the food did not. At 7.30pm, which is early for a Friday night dinner, they were already out of one of the main courses, but omitted to say so until a guest at our table ordered it! The alternative sounded nice, but the trout arrived swimming in a sauce and very overcooked. The fresh vegetables caused a scrum between the 6 of us sharing them!! The wine was excellent, but we skipped dessert to go back to our lovely accommodation next door and have some cheese.
So generally disappointing.... especially for the price.
