A Melbourne institution, this stylish pub was one of the frontrunners and the leaders of the pack when it came to bringing contemporary, serious food to the humble pub back in the '90s. Until then, all you could get at your local was over-fried fish and chips or a dry parma, but all that has changed since the advent of the "foodie pub" and it's thanks in part to this gem. The food is still as impressive as it was then, with a French- and Italian-inspired menu of dishes such as coq au van, twice-cooked duck (with potato fondant, braised red cabbage and thyme jus gras) and lamb cassoulet.
