Traditional Ethiopian fare (with a few Western touches) is the order of the day at Nyala. Always a fave with those who want to try something a little different but don't want to sacrifice quality.

Addictively good
The second time I've been here, and both times it's been superb. The food is among the tastiest I've ever had. I'm new to African cuisine but it seems to mostly be bite-sized chunks of meat served with aromatic, flavoursome thick sauces with either rice or injera, a pancake-like bread. There was a great selection of vegetarian dishes too. The lone waiter was relaxed and friendly, and the food arrived promptly. Nice relaxed atmosphere, and very reasonably priced, with all mains under $20. I recommend the "Nyala Special". Both times I've been on a Wednesday night. We could just walk in and get a table without a reservation. Both times it was just under half-full, enough people there to give it a bit of atmosphere without being loud or crowded.

Swahili dinner time
Since my partner is Kenyan, he took me down to this place a couple of months ago and by now we're regulars. Service is very relaxed but on time and the food is fantastic! It's not a dandy place, feels a bit like you're eating in his kitchen but that's what I like about it. The only thing that was annoying was my partner translating every single Swahili song that'd be playing in the background :)

Almost didn't go...
After reading the most recent review prior to our planned night out, I almost changed our plans. However we didn t and we really enjoyed the atmosphere which allowed us to catch up. The food was delicious and the quality of the meat was adequate. This isn't a 5 star restaurant, but great for something different and catching up with friends. The service was unobtrusive, attentive and timely. We found it a really great place for a meal and a catch up. (This was on a Monday night, in peak periods it may be different).

Nyala
We had read good things about this restaurant on this site, but were quite disappointed by the service and food. The entree was a combination of dips, two of which were good but then the waiter forgot our wine which had ask for again. The two main meat dishes, looked yummy but lacked flavour and the meat was chewy and tough. We usually wolf down most meals and are certainly not fussy eaters, however we both lost our appetites and did not finish our meals. Unfortunately we won't be giving this a second chance.

Superb
I've never experienced such wonderful service in any resturant; the staff are extremely friendly and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. This lovely restaurant provides great food at a reasonable price, with great options for vegetarians, vegans and meat-eaters! I'd recommend this place to anyone!

A great new experience
It was super to look at a menu and see things I hadn't before! Food was really tasty and a had a nice variety including quite a lot of vegetarian options. Service was not wonderful but was certainly pleasant and timely. BYO option made it a cheap and delicious night.

Delicious
It was great to try something different. The food was beautiful, nicer than a lot of what I actually ate when in Africa! Fantastic service!
