The new venture of owner Roger Fowler (ex-Stokehouse), NorthSouth has chef Adrian Kosylo at the helm and is a surprisingly casual and accessible eatery among the schmick restaurants on Chapel Street's 'Paris end'. They offer breakfast and lunch daily (and on weekends, breakfast is served till 4pm, so you know this is a laidback spot) as well as dinner from Wednesday to Saturday.
The breakfast menu is what has really had tongues wagging since the place opened in 2010, with the 60-degree poached eggs and salmon pastrami fast becoming a top-selling dish and attracting a lot of attention, but the lunch and dinner menus offer some incredible seasonal produce done with an innovative, fresh take. A few beers are available on tap, and a wine list by Jeremy Shiell (of the Royal Mail Hotel fame) rounds out a beautiful, relaxed dining experience. This is casual but cool Melbourne dining at its best.
