This family-run eatery is perfect for the kind of meal that focuses on the eating, rather than the dining, experience. The interior is simple and crafted to provide a space to tuck in comfortably, with dishes influenced by Malaysian, Singaporean and Indonesian flavours. The real treasures here come from the extended menu selection on offer. Vegetarians can take comfort from the fact that the meat-free selection is not only comprehensive, it's well-composed and tasty to boot. Norsiah's gado gado has been known to win over a tastebud or two.

Tasty and Cheap
I eat here on a weekly basis because the food is delicious. It's real malay food, with real spices and taste, that's why you see so many Asians eating here. The food is cheap (2 meat+1 veg and rice for $6.50) and simple and authentic. If you're tired of the puffery on Lygon St, swing by Swanston pop into Norsiah's Kitchen. Their teh tarik is as close as you can get to the real thing, and cheap too at two dollars.
