Restaurant Noi

This waterside mod-Italian features spectacular views of the East Perth cove, and though tiny, it punches far above its culinary weight. The short menu is well-considered, despite its diminutive size, and is supplemented by a changing list of daily specials. Most are contemporary reworkings of traditional Italian classics, such as the ricotta-based gnocchi, seasoned with parmesan and thyme and served with a tomato, mushroom and spinach concasse. The signature chicken breast stuffed with fig, goat's cheese and pistachio comes highly recommended and is best preceded by a platter of the appealingly arranged antipasto. Noi isn't yet licensed, so bring your own favourite bottle (or two) of vino and while an afternoon away, waterside.

Not good enough
I dined there for the first time on a Friday night with three friends. The venue has a blackboard advertising about three or four specials but with no prices. When we asked the waiter the prices he had to pull a scrap of paper out of his pocket and recite them to us. Not professional. You would think he could commit them to memory.

I had a dish of crumbed pork cutlets sitting on about 10 wedges of baked potatoes as did one of my friends. It was fairly forgettable. The other two had liver dishes which they described as acceptable.

When I ordered a bottle of beer it was given to me with a glass that would hold only half the contents of the bottle instead of being given a normal-sized beer glass. For a place that was barely a quarter full the food was slow in coming and we had to ask twice for the bill. I won't be going back.

Sad
Since Noi first opened, I have often been there for coffee and meals and was always very happy with the food and service. However, in recent months, things have become increasingly disappointing at Noi. Yesterday, we waited 30 minutes for a very mediocre coffee and 55 minutes for brunch. The muesli with yoghurt and berries is usually great, but yesterday there was a distinct garlic flavour! The other meal of scrambled eggs was just passable. This is very sad as the place has great potential. It seems that the inital enthusiasm to provide great food and service has waned.

Location lovely, service terrible
We had another terrible brunch experience at Noi. And this makes us twice bitten... we're never going back.

The two of us arrived at 10.30am and the place was buzzing. Ordered within 5 mins. The one ordered coffee took 20 minutes, food took over 50 minutes, and we had to ask for it again. No apologies, just blaming the delay on other tables being before us.

People on the table next to us were less than impressed, and others near by in same boat.

No follow up to see if we wanted more coffees, haphazard service to the table. And museli with fruit and yoghurt shouldn't have a faint taste of garlic, should it?

My scrambled eggs with toast (u have to ask for butter these days?) was actually delicious, but 50 minutes to arrive made it a rather dull experience.

Next time we'll wait for the Royal to open next door at 11am and go there. The location remains something special on a lazy morning.

What a surprise!
After reading some of this restaurant's reviews I had no expectations when heading in to dine. We arrived at around 8pm and were quickly seated and served sparkling water. Our waiter was flawlessly attentive without being intrusive, and had a sound knowledge of both the food and wine menus. Our entree, a tasting plate, didn't bring any surprises, tending towards chorizo, artichokes, caper berries, creamy fetta etc, but still delicious and delightfully presented, arrived in a very short time.

We were pleasantly surprised when a complimentary bowl of chilli mussels arrived at our table (our original order, oysters with campari jelly had run out).

Our mains, medium beef fillet wrapped in proscuitto with polenta chips in a red wine jus, and a salmon fillet served with a capsicum reduction and asparagus, were both cooked to absolute perfection. The only let down to the entire evening was the rather lengthy wait between the first two courses. However the atmosphere was casual and relaxed and the wine was sublime, so it wasn't an unpleasant wait.

This little gem was a great find, the location is stunning, we will definitely be going back. Bravo!

Very satisfied
My parents, my boyfriend and I had lunch at Noi's yesterday and were more than pleased with our choice of venue. We were attended to immediately and shown to our table, given a few minutes to make our drinks selections (which arrived shortly after). Our meal orders were duly taken, and again arrived soon afterwards. My mother had the spaghetti with potatoes, green beans and pesto, I had the toasted panini with flavourful grilled vegies and pesto, my dad had fish & chips and my boyfriend had the focaccia with minute steak and chips on the side. We followed up with baci chocolate cake and lemon cheesecake. We were more than satisfied with the service and the food and would certainly eat there again.

Could be a lot better
Nice location, good food, terrible service.

Arriving at 8pm it was 25 minutes before menus were brought out to our table even though we had been shown to the table and even then only when we approached the counter to ask for menus. The food was very slow in coming out and my friend's rather small main vegetarian risotto had bacon in it. It was explained that the menu had changed during the week and we happened to receive two which had been overlooked. By the time the correct dish was brought out, it was 10.45pm and I had virtually finished my mains. Having said that our mains, the vegetarian risotto and the prawns, were actually quite good! It's a pity that a cafe serving good food at a nice location is spoilt by the poor service.

Potential
Not mindblowing, but certainly potential. The food itself was great, though the service let it down a bit. The food was very slow coming out and the waitress taking our orders informed us that the wine we wanted from the wine list was not in stock. But the food itself was pretty good. The portions are small. The gnocchi was definitly a favourite.

Italian gem
Really enjoyed Noi - beautifully decorated, tiny eatery on the Claisebrook inlet and the food is great! As it is a smaller establishment, with presumably a small oven, there can be a wait but the view makes up for it. Noi is now licenced and has a pretty decent list of wines, mainly Australian and New Zealand, with nothing above $40.

To start my table shared a three-cheese polenta which was a perfect consistency, springy and light. I ordered the beef fillet with potato gratin in a red wine sauce. The beef, cooked medium rare as requested was scrumptious! Every flavour was well defined - the garlic, the pepper from the red wine, the spices. The dessert selection is also pretty fantastic, consisting of several different tarts and cakes. I had the lemon lime brulee, wonderful. Great meal!
