At No. 3 Station Pier, there is something for most diners with deep pockets. The pier level is the perfect place to grab breakfast or lunch while watching the ships go by. But it is the restaurant on the mezzanine level that makes the night out a special experience. The white walls and white linen accentuate the lovely views through the full-length glass windows, and for a divine harbour view book a table a long time ahead. The meals served are an exceptional array of mod-Oz, featuring superb provincial game dishes and some vegetarian and seafood wonders. The wine list would delight most aficionados with cognacs, armagnacs and digestifs to boot. Expect to empty your pockets here because it's a pricey establishment.

great food and service
On a cold night we ventured down to port melbourne, finding our way to no. 3 station pier. from the moment we walked in, we fould ourself sat down and offered a drink and put in a good mood with a friendly waiteress who was able to talk us through menu items that either we were unsure about or that my partner might of been allergic too. we only had wine by the glass but as we looked through the wine list we thought we both shouldnt of driven. the food was beautifully plated and tasted amazing...we hadnt been back there since a bad exprience in 2008 but we gave it another shot and it was worth it...my advice try again. it seemed like the staff kitchen and floor had be revamped as well as the dinning areas

Things have changed
We have been to Station Pier No 3 for the last numbers of years: ever since it opened. Things have certainly changed for the worse in 2009. We went on a Wednesday night, an intially thought it was going to be busy. It was actually quiet from the outside windows, and maybe that was a sign. Maybe it was just being a cold night in Melbourne as well. The food was disappointing - sirloin steaks were poor quality, definitely not the freshest, and the texture of the meat was odd - not quite right. The eye fillet was good. Service was slow: ordered drinks, and saw them waiting on the bar table to be delivered to our table: 5 mins for a non-busy night. The atmosphere: worn out, looking old, a shame for such a decent view. I was embarrassed to bring my overseas relatives to this restaurant in Port Melbourne. I am not suprised to see the other reviews from 2009 similar to mine. Maybe this is a trap for the infrequent visitor like myself or tourists. I will not come here again, unless maybe for drinks/coffee. Disappointed.

great food and service
Wow. we had the paella which was packed with beautiful and fresh seafood and cooked to perfection. The waitress helped us choose the wine to go with the meal and it was delightful. We finished off with a chocolate fondant which was heavenly. yum. Coffee was perfect as was the remarkable view. thanks to the staff who were lovely too.

What an awful event!
We stopped in on chance as we were waiting for the Spirit of Tasmania and thought we would have a few beers and a nice meal as a celebration of the trip ahead. Wow did we regret it! We ordered the seafood platter for the main and as a lover of seafood asked before hand if the seafood was fresh. To which the manager told us that the bugs were frozen but all the rest was fresh. We were served 3 fresh oysters (frozen and small) 3 Kirkpatrick (bacon was bigger than oyster)1 bug (frozen dry and awful) some smoked salmon (straight out of the packet) and a handful of defrosted prawns. It was awful and this was for the required 2 people minimum to order the seafood platter!! There was not enough food for 1!!! When we complained we received with nothing but disdain for we should of appreciated this awful meal and we were told that we come from an area that has good seafood and this is what we should expect from Melbourne!! So to all you in Melbourne I really feel for you!! Terrible service and an awful experience all round really bad start to our trip!!

Extremely disappointed first timers - and last timers!
I wanted to try 3 Station Pier and thought what better way to do this than on Valentines Day. My husband and I booked the 6.00pm session, which was $75 per head (not including drinks or coffees). The seafood appetisers were quite bland, which is surprising considering one would expect high quality seafood here. As I was still hungry after the appetisers, I asked if we could order garlic bread, but was told the kitchen would not be cooking anything other than the Valentines Day menu. Again, very disappointing because we were not satisfied with what the set menu offered. The portions of the main meals were mediocre and without flavour. When it came to paying our bill, I was told that my credit card had already been charged the $150 when I made the booking over the phone, and all we had to pay for was the balance of the additional drinks we ordered. Not only was I not advised of this over the phone, the person who took my booking assured me that the purpose of obtaining my credit card details was only to secure the booking. The behaviour of the people running this establishment is extermemly deceitful, as no authorization was provided to charge our credit card. Our experience here not only ruined Valentines Day for us, but has left a very sour impression on your highly appraised establishment. We will not be returning patrons and we will be advising others of the same.

Very disappointing and not cheap
We had a large group of 14 for lunch. The food was terrible and the service even worse. Advertised entree was homemade dips. They seemed straight out of a packet. Main course of fillet steak was tasteless. Service was atrocious. On three occasions we were brought other peoples' food. We had to ask three times for our drinks. This restauant was not worth the money and I would not ever bother going back.

Terrible service
Food was awesome and tasty, however the service put a real damper on the evening. We had to ask for wine lists, menus and to be served. Food arrived at different times, which caused awkwardness at the table. Once the starters were cleared and mains arrived we had to ask for cutlery. Staff were very busy, however for this calibre of restaurant I expected a lot more.
Food was awesome but service was terrible. Very disappointing.

Relaxed atmosphere
After dining at this restaurant I was taken back by the friendliness and wonderful atmosphere. I really enjoyed my experience in dining out at Port Melbourne and would highly recommend the restaurant to others. Well done.

Delicious seafood in great surroundings
We had a table of four for dinner at Pier and it was excellent. We had the fortune of a warm night which adds to the ambience.
The food was fantastic and service decent. I thoroughly recommend the whole baby snapper for two and the other seafood mains had by my friends were highly praised also.
Well worth a visit, going by the standard set at the Pier level, I imagine the mezzanine must be out of this world!
