No. 2 Oak Street

Set in a 1910 heritage cottage in a picturesque town, No. 2 Oak Street epitomises the sort of innocent charm you may not have thought existed anymore. While the restaurant has 'grandma's house' appeal, Ray Urquhart's cuisine is anything but old-fashioned. This is comforting fare in country-sized portions, but with an awareness of modern trends, so even 'city folk' can't help but walk away satisfied.

Celebrations at No. 2 Oak St, Bellingen
My friends and I recently celebrated a couple of birthdays during the jazz festival at Bellingen. We booked into No 2 Oak St in anticipation of a great night out together, and our expectations were entirely satisfied.

Thanks so much to the staff for being welcoming and so personable in their service, with engaging warm humour from beginning to end of our evening.

We ordered a varied selection of small and large dishes across the table - including fish, chicken, red meat and gnnochi, and they were delicious and beautifully presented dishes - all 6 of us were delighted with our meals. The pork belly dish was incredibly tender and flavoursome - I shared this with a friend - we both loved it. No sharing next time!

Everyone at No 2 Oak St joined in our celebrations and I am sure that is testament to the wonderful atmosphere encompassing everyone in this charming establishment. Dining at No 2 Oak St Bellingen is an experience truly worth letting everyone know of - for fine dining, beautiful presentation, attention to detail and excellent hosts. Enjoy... we certainly did!

No. 2 Oak Street
My wife and I had dinner there for our 3rd anniversary. From the outside the restaurant is not too attractive and in the inside it is ok. It is nice enough but did not create a really nice ambience just looked like a run of the mill restaurant.

Nice plates and cutlery. Service was great but let down by one matter. When I ordered a specific verdehlo I noticed the waitress pouring me the glass from a different bottle. I questioned if this was the wine as I knew what the bottle of wine I asked for looked like. She stated no this was a different wine from a boutique winery not on sale to the public and offered to get me the original glass I ordered if I wished. I agreed to drink that wine but I am unsure why the waitress would do such a thing? Was she trying to unload wine from a previous function the night before or trying to give me what she believed was a better wine. I took this on the chin as to not ruin the night.

The rest of night was ok. The entrees were nothing special at this sort of establishment. Our mains were tasty but again nothing out of this world.

My wife had the dessert and said it was beautiful. I had an affogato that was ok.

The maitre'd of the year 2007 was on hand and was serving along with the waitress. I am sure the waitress would have told her what had occured but she made no mention of it.

I heard good reviews about this place. I changed my accommodation booking just to dine here but
I would not recommend this place to my friends or family.

Always a culinary experience to remember
My partner and I are from Sydney and travel north often. A highlight of our trips is a visit to No.2 Oak Street. Of all the restaurants we have dined at worldwide I can confidently say that Toni, Ray and their fantastc team are are at the forefront for their quality ingredients, delicious and innovative menu and their excellent service. Toni is a gem, both welcoming and witty, ensurng that your dining experience is a memorable one. Congratulations to the team for their well-deserved award and I look forward to visiting again soon. The only problem I have is because everything on the menu is so appealing I find it hard to make a decision however I do recommend the Kalang River oysters - to die for!
