Ninniku Jip is a smart, modern styled restaurant with a distinctly Asian feel. Striking red walls provide an injection of colour and brightness, while the black which covers others provides a fitting contrast (and stop the room being overloaded with red). Cafe style chairs and booth seating provide diners with comfort and the tables are a lesson in simplicity, beautifully presented but not overdone.
This restaurant is the result of owner Joanna Whittles vision - Ninniku is Japanese for Garlic and Jip means house in Korean - quite apt, for garlic features in nearly all the dishes on offer at Ninniku Jip. This is certainly no bad thing; none of the dishes are overpowered by the garlic, which is almost surprising when you take into account that the restaurant uses around 10kg of garlic every fortnight.
The menu is certainly varied, described as "a mix of Korean, Japanese and Italian" by the owner. Offering a mix of cuisines in one dish is certainly an unusual approach, but one which is well received. One such dish is their kimchi spaghetti - spaghetti with bolognese sauce, Korean pickled cabbage with red pepper, topped with grilled cheese and served with garlic bread. A must try while you're at Ninniku Jip. As Ninniku Jip is fully licensed, there is a great selection of beers, wines and sprits available. However if you'd prefer to BYO wine, then the $4.50 corkage fee will certainly not put anyone off the idea.
