FANTASTIC NIGHT!! Brilliant food & service!!
Not sure if there are new owners or if the current owners read the 'bad' reviews and did something about it..... however - we booked for 20 people and the food was so very fresh, extremely tasty and everyone enjoyed everything they ordered - from the entree's to mains to the devilish desserts! (The choc fond was to die for!!) The staff were very attentive and kept our drinks coming and were very friendly and helpful on a whole! The aptmostphere was 2nd to none - heaters all going to keep us all warm and it wasn;t too noisy like many other venues at King Street Wharf. Cocktails were sensational too!! Not a single complaint from any of our 22 diners and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a great seafood/ dining experience with super freindly staff to boot!! (and dont forget to try the "Belgian Double Chocolate Fondant" is was dreamy!!)

Worst night
We attended for a very special celebration. Arrived at 6pm as we also had a 1 year old. We order lobster which for $95 was served without any side dishes. It have been taken out of the shell and mixed with lemon butter sauce. Every other place I have gone to serve it grilled intact in the shell and covered with the sauce. This had been taken out of the shell - so what went back in? The leg as you would crack them open were stone cold, so it wasn't freshly cooked and the front big tenticles were missing - what a rip off. As we had bought a cake with us for the celebration - we requesed it about 8:30pm by 9pm it had still not arrived. When it was bought at 9:10 the people at the table were not seated defeating the purpose of a celebration, we left withough having the cake - the event was dismally ruined! Terrible service and extremely disappointing for a venue which could offer a whole lot more, starting with the service and the food! Goodluck!

Horrendous Service - Do not recommend
We had to wait an age to be served, then had to ask for tap water 4 times. The wine too another age to come followed by having to remind the waiter for our starter. I say the waiter - we didn't really have an allocated waiter, just anyone who walked by - which wasn't often - it was pretty hard to get any of their attention. My main turned up - incorrect order. It was rectified pretty quickly to their credit but then it was all downhill from their. We waited another age for a cocktail - and when we complained, the manager said that actually he had timed it and it only took 20 minutes - as if that's ok! The drinks after desert took another age and I had to go up to the kitchen to find staff to ask for the drinks. They appeared to have completely given up serving any customers they had left and were more pre-occupied with setting tables for the morning. The food was pretty average and service absolutely horrendous - I will never be returning to this restaurant.

Terrible Friday Night Service
Took my boyfriend to dinner there on a Friday night for his birthday, thinking that this place would be a great place to try out the fresh seafood platter for 2. It would be the first and last time I would go back to Nick's Bar & Grill.

As soon as we arrived, I told the lady at the front counter that we had reservations, she searched for our names on the reservation list and our names were nowhere to be found. Concerned, the lady asked us if we had booked it under a different name, I made the booking so I knew what name I had made the reservations under. I knew right then and there that it would be a bad start to the night. Nonetheless, it was still pretty early (around 7pm) and the lady quietly sat us down at our table. And I had already forgotten about the first hiccup.

At first, the service seemed to be pretty good, the waitress brought over the specials board to our table and we decided to order what we intended to come there for, our fresh seafood platter for 2.

We were surprised to receive our food quite quickly, and the serving was enormous. The food looked appetising, and we quickly got stuck into our food.

Everything seemed OK until the point where we had finished our meal. The waiters and waitresses saw that we had finished with our meal and we were ready to have our table cleared.

It took about 15- 20 minutes of trying to grab one of the waiters' attention to have our table cleared. Every waiter and waitress that walked past seemed to be occupied but were aware that we had finished our meal but no one approached us to ask if we were done with our meal. Finally a waiter came to our table to clear away our plates and we kindly requested for the bill. The waiter acknowledged our request and cleared our table.

15 minutes later, a waitress came up to our table and handed us the dessert menu and did not say one word and walked away. We didn't ask for the dessert menu and we didn't even have time to tell her that we asked for our bill not the dessert menu.

We waited another 20 minutes for someone to attend to us, I understand that more customers were starting to enter the restaurant for dinner but half the restaurant was not full. I found that the waiters focused their attention more on the customers that had 4 or more on their table and had forgotten the tables who had 2 customers dining.

Frustrated, I had to try and signal another waiter's attention to ask for the bill. Finally I caught one of the waiter's eye and asked him for our bill. It took another 10 minutes for him to hand us our bill. At last I thought, once I put my payment inside the bill I was sure that a waitress or waiter would process this relatively quickly. My thoughts were wrong, and now it was another waiting game to grab another waiter's attention to collect the bill (as I required change).

Trying my best not to cause a scene due to my exasperation of waiting constantly, I finally grabbed the bill and walked up to one waiter to ask him where the cashier was, as I have been waiting over half an hour for it to be collected(I did not want to vent out my frustration on him as I know it was not his fault). He showed me to the cashier where another lady was standing there and finally I received my change. The waiter thanked me for my patience but strangely enough, he did not apologise for the trouble caused.

I was happy enough to grab my change and did not tip as I strongly believe that tipping would be to compliment on the food and service.

It is a shame that a place as such, which initially in the beginning was very attentive to us, towards the end left us with a bad lasting impression.

I will not be going back to this place and I will not be recommending friends to dine here either.

A WORLD-CLASS VENUE
We had a Christmas function for 15 people and it was a most enjoyable experience. The food, the view and more particularly the service was world-class. Well-done.
